JOB DESCRIPTION:
HR Assistant – Class B Secretary
Under the direction of the HR Generalist and Assistant Superintendent of Human Capital and Talent Dev., performs professional level administrative staff work of moderate difficulty which is performed independently and requires initiative, the development of an in-depth understanding of specialized areas of the work, and an advanced level of computer technology skill; may act and make decisions on behalf of the administrator in accordance with instructions, precedent, established policies and procedures, and the application of good judgment; plans and organizes schedules and calendar activities and workflow and communication for a complex division; interprets and applies knowledge of hr policies, rules, regulations and procedures, programs and organization to a wide range of situations and issues; and to do other related work as directed. In addition, incumbents are expected to compose difficult correspondence and statistical and narrative reports for approval, make decisions in scheduling the time of the administrator, to screen work submitted to the office for conformity with policy, regulation and procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
Successful candidates must have a High School Diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred) AND three years of progressively responsible office administrative work and computer experience preferably in Human Resources;
OR the equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must have strong communication skills. Candidates must be familiar with database systems and common HR applications. Prior school experience is desirable.

A valid Connecticut Driver’s License may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
