Maryland 529 consists of two active savings programs, the Maryland Senator Edward J. Kasemeyer College Investment Plan, and the Maryland ABLE Program. All programs under Maryland 529 are overseen by the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office. The Marketing Department within Maryland 529 is responsible for promoting the Maryland 529 savings programs to residents throughout the State. The Marketing Department is solely responsible for managing and staffing all outreach events as well as managing MD 529’s social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter (X), and YouTube.
This position will build and execute social media strategies while monitoring Maryland 529’s internal and external social media platforms. In addition to promoting all off-site events throughout social media platforms.
This position also serves as the main point of contact for businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations who are seeking a representative to provide information for Maryland’s College Investment plan. This position is responsible for communicating and promoting the Maryland College Investment Plan through scheduling and assigning contractual staff and/or delivering in-person presentations, or webinars, at educational institutions, State agencies, private corporations. This position will also assist in the coordination of community partnerships and will serve as a liaison between Maryland 529 and community organizations to help promote the Maryland 529 savings plans to constituents.
The Treasury Professional I classification is one level in a non-competitive promotion series, in which an employee may advance in grade and class level from intermediate to a full performance, Treasury Professional II through work experience and competency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (required):
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of experience in business administration, office management, finance, accounting,
economics, or related field.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute education from an accredited college or university or nationally recognized industry certification program, at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of experience, for up to two years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in financial administration and program classification or financial administration specialty codes in the accounting and budget group field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATION:
Two of the required years of experience must be in social media marketing to include creating social media posts for an organization or company, monitoring a company’s social media account and responding to inquiries, pulling reports from social media platforms to provide quantitative metrics, or experience in a related field.

SELECTION PROCESS: Applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications will be admitted to examination for this classification. Successful candidates will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for one year.
