Physician Health Services, Inc. (PHS), is a nonprofit corporation that was founded by the Massachusetts Medical Society to address issues of physician health. PHS is a confidential resource for physicians and medical students who may benefit from help addressing stress, burnout, work-life balance issues, and a variety of physical and behavioral health concerns that sometimes arise in today’s hectic health care environment. These include substance use difficulties, cognitive issues, psychiatric problems, the stress of medicolegal situations, and interpersonal challenges at work or at home. PHS provides resources to those who seek our services, and is designed to provide assessments and also monitor those in need for the recovery of substance use disorders, behavioral health concerns, occupational problems, or mental or physical illness.
We are currently seeking a PHS Clinical Coordinator to work in our Waltham, MA office.
In close collaboration with PHS physician directors, the Clinical Coordinator manages a caseload of PHS monitoring clients to promote and maintain the health and professional viability of the client while supporting the safety of patients. Clients are physicians and medical students with significant health-related issues such as substance use disorders, behavioral or mental health issues, occupational stress, burnout, and problematic workplace behavior. The Clinical Coordinator works closely with the Medical Director, PHS physicians, clinical coordinators, General Counsel, and the management team, in conjunction with each client’s treating clinician(s) and leaders in his/her institution, to implement and assist with managing formal monitoring contracts and agreements. She or he meets with assigned monitoring clients on a monthly basis, and interfaces, as needed, with various stakeholders invested in the well-being of the client. She or he works with the PHS team and other stakeholders to help direct the client to the necessary evaluative and therapeutic resources when necessary. The Clinical Coordinator will participate in managing referral calls and assisting with intakes and assessments, while also serving as a liaison and assist with communication between PHS, external evaluation and treatment programs and with workplace and/or school monitors.
PHS services are built on a foundation of strong compassionate relationships which help hold individuals accountable to program expectations and can include limit setting while upholding hope.
