Location
MTCC is located in Marion, N.C., a small, pleasant town at
the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains with the tagline, “Where Main Street Meets the Mountains.” Just off Interstate 40, Marion is located
approximately 35 miles east of Asheville in McDowell County.

Qualifications: Experience required at the Director, Chair, Coordinator or Dean level, which should
include major administrative higher education experience and positive impact on the institution, community, and workforce. Effective
communication skills and the ability to relate to students, faculty, staff and administration is a requirement. Master’s Degree
required. Doctorate preferred.

The Vice President of Academics and Student Services provides strategic oversight and supervision for curriculum and
student services areas of the College to help fulfill the institutional mission and to achieve measurable progress towards the Goals and
Objectives in the Vision 2025 Strategic Plan. The VP ensures quality leadership and support is provided to faculty and staff and leads
strategic efforts to provide quality learning opportunities for students both inside and outside of the classroom. This VP position, along
with the VP/CFO, serves on the senior executive team reporting to the President, and also sits on the President’s Council.
The
VP is responsible for ensuring a holistic approach to student recruitment, admissions, enrollment, retention, and completion. The VP
provides transformational leadership for the College and the division, motivates others, and facilitates change while ensuring quality
management and maximizes learning, resources, and personnel. The VP serves as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, administration, and
the community at large.
Positions and departments under Academic & Student Services include (anticipated structure as of
September 1, 2022): Direct reports – Dean of Curriculum Programs; Dean of Student Success; Director of Financial Aid & Veterans
Affairs; Director of Enrollment Management, the Registrar, and Support Staff. Divisional Oversight –All Curriculum Programs; Distance
Education; Student Services; Student Success, which will include Library Services, Student Enrichment & Adult Engagement, Success
Coaches, Library Services, and Secondary Partnerships. The VP is required to reside in close proximity (45-minute commute) to perform
effectively in the position and to allow active involvement in the college community. It is preferred they establish residency in McDowell
County.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Promote quality in learning and instruction by using
student-centered principles in leadership, management, hiring, scheduling, evaluation, and professional development; Overall supervision and
evaluation of above areas and serves as the chief academic officer.
2. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all direct reports
3.
Support, mentor, and assist deans and direct reports in: a. The selection, evaluation, and professional development of faculty and
professional staff in alignment with strategic priorities b. Student-centered instructional and holistic student services practices c. The
implementation of innovation in teaching and learning practices
4. The oversight of program review and student learning outcomes
assessment process to ensure meaningful evaluation practices and continuous improvement in program quality
5. Promotes and ensures
efficient and effective enrollment management functions
6. Promotes and ensures a comprehensive Student Development Program,
inclusive of academic achievement, college completion, and personal development, meeting the diverse needs of the student body.
7.
Ensure direct collaboration with Workforce Continuing Education to ensure non-credit offerings that articulate credit, complete with
on-ramps and off-ramps via career pathways
8. Actively participate in student recruitment and retention activities, admissions,
advising, and registration activities as needed
9. Works with leadership to establish priorities for and maintain articulation
agreements to create and enhance pathways for student transfer purposes
10. Responsible for program review, program evaluation
and instructional evaluation
11. Responsible for evaluation of student services, direct reports and ensures quality evaluation
processes for all divisional personnel
12. Responsible for the implementation of initiatives that support the college’s
commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
13. Responsible for reviewing all policies, procedures, administrative rules and
guidelines, regulations, and procedures relating to student services, and initiating needed changes
14. Responsible for
cooperation with the Director of IER/SACSCOC Liaison to ensure compliance with all aspects of program and institutional accreditation and
compliance
15. Recruits, screens and recommends faculty/staff for employment
16. Responsible for professional
development, orientation and mentoring of faculty and staff
17. Responsible for management of budgetary requirements of
instructional and student services programs to include salaries, supplies, materials, facilities and equipment and approves purchase order
requests
18. Leads team efforts to seek external funding to fill in gaps where necessary aligned with college priorities
19. Responsible, along with the deans, for instructional facility utilization and scheduling of instructional programs
20.
Serves as student advocate with the administrative processes of the college
21. Responsible for the development of policies,
procedures, programs and services necessary for the effective and efficient functioning of academic/instructional services and student
services
