Position Summary:

Manage professional staff in the investigation of personal and commercial lines automobile claims and coverage problems for the Litigation unit. Plan, direct and control the activities of the Litigation unit in accordance with established claim practices and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Accountable for overall effectiveness of the unit, compliance with established claim practices and procedures, and good rapport between the Company, agents and insureds. Update the VP/Claims regarding conditions, developments, trends and progress which affect the unit and the Company.
• Supervise personnel of the Litigation unit, including hiring, counseling, salary and performance reviews, terminations and problem/solution situations as indicated. Review incoming transfers as received and assign or delegate to appropriate personnel.
• Conduct periodic reviews of claims reserve, coverage investigations and settlement practices to ensure prompt and fair service in compliance with claims policies and procedures while maintaining file quality. Settle claims in excess of staff authority level or guide staff in such settlements.
• Review files with complex coverage issues, referring files to legal or granting/extending coverage when applicable. Assist in development of basic objectives, procedures and operations of the unit; analyze operating results relative to established guidelines and take appropriate action to improve performance, productivity and cost effectiveness.
• Develop departmental goals and objectives. Assist with divisional planning/forecasting with respect to training, staffing and applying new technologies and methods to meet future business needs.

Education & Experience:

• Undergraduate 4-year program as well as a minimum of 6 years related Company experience including coverage verification experience
• 3 – 5 years in a managerial capacity
• Ideal candidate has experience handling IL, OK and/or TX litigation claims
