Digital Communications Specialist

OVERVIEW:

Perform professional-level, individual analysis of daily internal and external communications and marketing, including creation, development, execution and distribution. The individual will be required to effectively communicate the district’s vision, goals, strategies, services, processes and accomplishments both internally and externally.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or related field, or minimum of two years demonstrated professional experience related to the position responsibilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and work under deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication and public relations skills
• Experience in current technologies used in communication, including light video production and editing, Adobe Suite and web content management systems
• Experience using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Google Suite
• Eye for details and strong proofreading skills, preferably trained in AP Style
• Ability to respond positively to changing priorities
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote and publicize Mesa Public Schools news, programs and successes in teaching, learning and student achievement through earned and owned media
• Create and manage all training and support documentation for administrators, teachers and staff regarding the use of social media, in collaboration with director of communications & engagement
• Write media releases, news articles, web and social media content, scripts for district leadership, and other messaging as needed
• Develop and manage an annual editorial calendar in collaboration with director of communications & engagement
• Establish and enforce protocols and best practices for school and department websites in collaboration with director of communications & engagement
• Create content and analyze impact on district social media, website and other platforms (digital and print)
• Provide support to school and district staff as needed related to web and social media content, and crisis communications, in collaboration with district communications specialist
• Engage with customers on social media platforms with professionalism and integrity
• Develop, implement, analyze and revise digital media marketing campaigns, in collaboration with graphic communications specialist and director of communications & engagement
• Design, place, track and monitor earned media (news) and paid media (advertising)
• Analyze social media and website engagement to help support best practices for employee and student recruitment and retention
• Ensure message continuity and brand integrity across school websites
• Regularly visit school sites for event coverage, photography, online and social media content and other promotional purposes
• Assure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and district policy regarding transparency, the disclosure of public information and accountability
• Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
