The Position
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for oversight of all talent management within the Mid-States Concrete Industries manufacturing facility and road crew. They manage the recruiting, onboarding, and ongoing performance of both divisions. Through exceptional communication, they ensure team members have the tools they need to manage their employment and achieve success in their role. Additional responsibilities include:
Recruiting: Oversee all recruiting processes for Plant and Road Crew Teams, including review of applications, screening candidates, scheduling and participating in interviews, and creating tools and guidelines for recruitment conversations.
Team Experience: Participate in creating an outstanding team experience through onboarding, performance review management, and feedback programs.
Worker’s Compensation: Process submission of all worker’s compensation claims; ensure consistent administration of process, including cadence of follow-up with employees, communication to supervisors, and compliance with light-duty requirements.
Communication: Regularly educate team members on news, policies, programs, and processes through in-person meetings and written postings. Proactively reach out to team members to provide or ask for information, often spending time in the plant manufacturing facility to reach team members.
Employee Relations: Investigate and issue discipline in collaboration with management and Union Representatives. Issue discipline promptly and consistently while independently evaluating the merits of each individual situation.
Employee Development: Partner with Production, Road Crew, and Safety to identify learning opportunities that support a “safety above all else” and “one team” culture. Train foremen and lead foremen in leadership skillset development and other programs to enhance the Mid-States work environment.
Benefits Administration: Manage enrollment process and provide ongoing service to employees to answer questions and troubleshoot benefit plan issues. In collaboration with HR Team, administer annual Health Risk Assessment program and strategize to increase promote participation. Support Mid-States Moves wellness program.
The Person
The Human Resources Manager is an expert communicator and can share both simple and complex messages to broad audiences. They stay on-topic and communicate with transparency. They are able to establish connections with others to improve performance and success across the organization and are emotionally intelligent – able to create an atmosphere of respect and helpfulness in their interactions.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years of demonstrated achievement in recruiting, HR administration, training/onboarding, and employee relations
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
Preferred Qualifications
PHR or SHRM-CP
5+ years of experience supporting a Human Resources department in a union environment
Experience working within Paycom or other HRIS systems
