Job Description
Overall Function: Under the direction of the program director and assistant program director, the clinical coordinator(s) will assist with organizing and scheduling the daily operations as well as case management services, in accordance with agency policies and procedures. The Clinical Coordinators work closely with Community Access Recovery Services (CARS) at Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division.
Clinical coordinator(s) must demonstrate strong supervisory skill in establishing priorities, assigning and reviewing work, and resolving issues. In order to manage multiple situations, clinical coordinator(s) must demonstrate the ability to multitask and delegate to achieve desired outcomes for all associated parties. The clinical coordinator(s) will also be required to demonstrate practical knowledge of co-occurring disorders. The clinical coordinator(s) should also demonstrate good communication skills to identify issues and solicit cooperation and obtain support for programs.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and coordinate the client admission process and treatment, rehabilitation, and support services of the program in coordination with the psychiatrist. Schedule the admission interview, develop and coordinate the initial assessment and initial recovery plan for each client.
- Direct and coordinate, for each client, the comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; physical health, vision, dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships.
- Assist with supervising and monitoring case notes and records, assuring maintenance of the records in compliance with agency policies, Medicaid, and other third- party payment requirements; train staff on record requirements; regularly review client assessments, recovery plans, case note, and progress notes written by the clinical staff.
- Assist in carrying out and documenting quality-assurance reviews of program services. Initiate and maintain relationships, in coordination with other staff, law-enforcement, other human services agencies, and with informal community resources (e.g., landlords, employers).
- Conduct clinical assessments and provide direct clinical treatment, rehabilitation, and support services to clients.
- Perform on-call duty for crisis intervention and for staff supervision and consultation.
Education, Experience and Knowledge Required:
The clinical coordinator(s) has at least a master’s degree in nursing, social work, psychiatric rehabilitation, psychology, or is a psychiatrist; is licensed or certified according to the laws of the state in which the program is operating. Person must have strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to persons with severe and persistent illnesses. Supervisory and program management experience is desirable. The person in this position must have a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
The clinical coordinator shall have either 3000 hours of supervised clinical experience in a practice where the majority of clients are adults with chronic mental illness or 1500 hours of supervised clinical experience in a Community Support Program.
