Thermal Hydraulics Software Developer
Advanced Technologies and Laboratories is seeking to contract with a highly capable and motivated Thermal Hydraulics Software Developer to support development, testing, and documentation of a proprietary In-House Nuclear Thermal Hydraulics code written in C++ called MONGOOSE++. Reporting to the Manager, Thermal Hydraulics and to the Project Manager, Codes and Methods, you will perform a variety of software development tasks, including writing unit tests and code documentation as well as software verification and validation activities. Ideal candidates will have background and experience in Nuclear Systems Analysis.
Responsibilities
· Assist in the testing and documentation process for a proprietary In-House Computer Code treating the in-core steady-state and transient thermal hydraulic phenomena in the Natrium Sodium-Cooled Reactor
· Perform code benchmarking and validation analyses to support code qualification and methodology development
· Assist in troubleshooting code performance issues involving use of first principles of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics to support and validate analysis results
· Work with other engineering groups using the code to establish software requirements
· Write User Manuals in clear and easy to understand language
· Write necessary documents for MONGOOSE++ Code Qualification in support of Nuclear Reactor Licensing efforts
· Apply ASME NQA-1 considerations into Documentation
· Exercise strict version control practices
Key Qualifications and Skills
· B.S. Degree or higher in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical engineering (or equivalent) with application to Nuclear Systems
· 2 – 4 years of experience writing C++ code in a scientific application
· Experience with Doxygen, Git, CMake, and Python
· Experience in Nuclear Systems Thermal-Hydraulic behavior and analyses a plus
· 2 – 4 years of experience with CFD/MultiPhysics software (e.g. FLUENT, StarCCM+, COMSOL, OpenFOAM, MOOSE) OR 2 – 4 years of experience with a nuclear systems code (e.g. RELAP, SASSYS, GOTHIC) a plus
· Demonstrated ability to participate on a multi-disciplinary team of engineers
· Experience with analysis of nuclear reactor core subchannel analysis a plus
· Experience with high temperature thermal-fluid systems (e.g. sodium) a plus
· Creative thinker with demonstrated strong analytical/problem solving skills
· Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
· Excellent English writing and communication skills
· The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
