New Hanover County Hiring For Health Educator at Wilmington, NC  Full Time

New Hanover County is looking for a Health Educator to join the Health and Human Services department. Positions serving as a member of the Health Promotion team participates in assessment of community health needs, and contributes health education and promotion expertise across our strategic priorities delivering programs and interventions on various topics to meet those needs. The Health Educator position overseeing Safe Kids/Injury Prevention coordinates a 3-county Safe Kids Coalition including grants oversight, educational programming, communications, and other duties associated with Safe Kids. This position focuses, primarily, on unintentional childhood injury, but also is concerned with adult poisoning injury from drug misuse, and other injury types of public health concern.

The Health Educator is responsible for planning, overseeing, and evaluating public health programs and initiatives for the New Hanover community. Other duties include:

• Develops, maintains and implements programs and services that meet the needs of the New Hanover community health strategic priorities and fulfill the vision and mission of NHC HHS and New Hanover County as a whole in an organized, efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Coordinate with team members, management, and internal partners.
• Designs and produces basic educational and promotional material.
• Supports public health student internships/volunteers to include selection, providing appropriate training, and observing work.
• Performs community outreach and public relations duties by communicating with and visiting community groups and organizations to deliver education on health issues.
• Participates in planning and implementing community activities through committees involving other agencies.
• Participates in ongoing training by attending seminars and programs on current health education topics.
• Assists with grant writing and budget preparation to include implementation of grants, provides data as required for compliance with grant guidelines, and completing reports.
• Compiles periodic reports on health data and program effectiveness.
• May include coordination of the Healthy Communities agreement.
• May include contribution to our Public Health Accreditation work.
• May include cross-training for ability to deliver various health education services.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
• Performs work during emergency/disaster situations

Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM weekdays; must be available during emergency situations.

Salary Information:

The hiring range for this position is $39,350 – $53,122 plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations. Please visit our careers site at for more information about our benefits.
