Newport Restaurant Group is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant is responsible for the general accounting functions of multiple business units, as well as the execution of internal audit procedures and special accounting projects, as assigned.

Staff Accountant responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Reconciliation and recording of revenues from various Point of Sales Systems (Restaurant & Hotel
• Computing, classifying, and recording numerical data to keep financial records complete.

Performing any combination of calculating, posting, reconciling, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.

• Checking the accuracy of figures and calculations, as well as verification of cash or credit card deposits pertaining to business transactions recorded by restaurants.
• Preparing and posting journal entries while maintaining accurate and reasonable documentation.
• Preparing balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner with supporting documentation.
• Preparing monthly sales tax for assigned business units.
• Month and year-end financial statements, along with balance sheet reconciliation for assigned locations.
• Ensures all transactions are completed in an accurate and timely manner with adherence to a strict monthly close schedule.
• Internal Audit – Following audit program and document procedures and findings as part of the internal audit function of the accounting department.

Qualifications:

• Minimum A.S. Degree in Accounting; B.S. Accounting Degree preferred
• Experience as an Accountant preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, high-demand, and fast-paced environment.
• Solid communication skills to effectively deal with various levels of management, staff and/or outside contacts.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work with highly sensitive data and information.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and maintain a regular work schedule to meet the needs of the business.
• Able to multi-task, have demonstrated organizational, detail orientation, prioritization skills, and time management skills to ensure that work-related activities are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Effective listening skills to ensure understanding of instructions and directions and effectively communicate progress and problems to co-workers and management.
• Familiarity with a variety of office equipment, standard software packages, and application, use of personal computers to include the Microsoft Office suite of products. This role requires strong Excel knowledge (i.e. advanced formulas and pivot tables)
• Ability to learn and use Accounting Software. (i.e. Multiview)
