Chief Financial Officer
Noble Schools seeks an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial vision, strategy, and execution for Noble Schools. The CFO ensures that Noble has the financial leadership, acumen, and resources needed to advance our mission on an annual basis and over the long run. More specifically, the role combines long-term strategic planning with tactical leadership of all financial, accounting, treasury and risk management functions, including capital management, financial analysis & reporting, cash management, capital planning, accounting, budgeting, insurance, and compliance.
In addition, the CFO sets high standards for financial integrity and stewardship across the organization to execute financial operations with impeccable service and operational integrity, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory and governance requirements.
Finally, the CFO serves as a key business partner to the Chief Executive Officer, President, Board of Directors, Audit & Finance Committee, and other senior leaders, as well as to external stakeholders such as our bond advisors, portfolio managers, bankers, auditors, and colleagues at Chicago Public Schools.
The Chief Financial Officer reports to Noble’s President and leads a team of eleven people (three are direct reports). Among the direct reports are the Controller, the Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, and the Director of Compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of financial planning and execution including: budgeting, accounting & financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash & debt management, and compliance
Provide strategic direction for the effective use of the finite financial resources needed to deliver on Noble’s mission
Build multi-year budget models and develop Noble’s long-term financial strategy, ensuring that organizational priorities align with our sustained fiscal health
Serve as a key contributor to the strategic direction of Noble by assessing the intersection of the organization’s goals with our financial resources
Serve as staff to Noble’s Board of Directors and Audit & Finance Committee
Lead a team of eleven, including three direct reports
Oversee Noble’s compliance function, identifying areas of risk related to federal, state, and local requirements
Oversee the execution of the existing Noble debt portfolio and any future financing, including compliance with debt service, cash on hand requirements and other reporting needs
Represent the organization with key external partners including our bond advisors, portfolio managers, bankers, auditors, and colleagues at Chicago Public Schools
Provide required financial reporting for city, state, federal requirements, compliance, and grants
Oversee the annual financial and compliance audit
Manage and maintain insurance, including banking, property, and casualty insurance
Advise on risk management and financial sustainability planning
Position Details
This is a permanent full-time exempt position that operates in a hybrid capacity (currently 2 days in our central office in downtown Chicago). Noble’s next CFO is expected to start by June 2023 but the start date can be flexible for an ideal candidate.
Candidate Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Deep and relevant experience leading large and complex finance teams and functions
Extensive financial, accounting, and budgeting management experience
Close alignment with Noble’s mission, core values, and commitment to anti-racism
Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree (with a preference for an MBA)
Active CPA license
Executive-level leadership and strategic planning experience
Experience with long-term financial modeling and planning
Experience with bond and other debt financing
Education and/or nonprofit experience
