Summary or Purpose
Manage the readiness and delivery of Fire and Emergency Medical Services in the community and Battalion concerns to the Deputy Fire Chief and Division Manager. Responds to emergencies as a fire officer providing fire suppression, emergency medical care, and rescue. This position is a regular member of the North Slope Borough Fire Department and is authorized to act under Alaska Statute 18.70.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage Fire Department operations and personnel.
Responsible for fire and EMS readiness in assigned community.
Responds to emergencies and directs firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required; serves as a fire officer during emergencies as assigned.
Coordinates routine maintenance of fire station, all emergency equipment, and other equipment as assigned;
Ensure facilities are clean, maintains inventory with adequate supplies, and in constant state of readiness.
Performs routine fire safety, pre-fire planning inspections and fire cause investigations.
Assists and interacts with Federal, State and Local emergency services organizations, other Borough Administrative Divisions, and outside organizations and businesses as directed.
Recruits, trains, equips, and leads local Fire/EMS responders; assures that staff are ready and prepared for duty, are adequately trained and equipped, and are held accountable for duties and responsibilities assigned.
Completes and maintains plans, records, s, logs, and related correspondence.
Provide public fire information, education, and safety programs for the community. Attend local city council meetings to give monthly s.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of NSB Fire Department standard operating guidelines, policies and procedures, NSB administrative procedures, firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety and legal issues.
Knowledge of Borough, State and Federal Laws, Regulations and Ordinances.
Knowledge of firefighting, fire prevention, first response and emergency medical treatment principles, practices and methods.
Skill in effectively managing, leading and delegating tasks and authority.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with community partners.
Skill in analyzing complex firefighting and emergency services issues and developing solutions for prevention and mitigation of emergencies.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
Associates of Fire Science Degree or Fire Science Certificate with 5 years of Arctic Firefighter experience;
Certified as State of Alaska Firefighter I;
Certified as Emergency Medical Technician I;
ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 Training;
Fire Service Instructor or ability to obtain within one year of hire;
Two years of Supervisory work experience;
Ability to obtain Firefighter-II within 1 year of hire.
Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria;
