Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) Office of the Chief Technologist (CT) is seeking a Research and Advanced Mission Solutions Department Manager – 3 , reporting to the Research and Advanced Mission Solutions (RAMS) center Director. As the Manager you will provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of research scientists, technologists, and mission experts to define common tools and best practices, coordinate staffing needs, facilitate collaboration amongst research, technology and mission experts across the Space Sector, and ensure staff have necessary resources to perform their jobs. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, CA. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Functional leadership of a group of approximately 45 senior scientists and engineers who are considered experts in their fields, including:Coordination of resources for employees to perform their jobsIdentification of sufficient and appropriate work scope for staffBalancing of staff support to IRAD, CRAD, and program needs across business areas, divisions, and sectors, including response to critical/urgent needsPerformance managementRecruiting and staffing as required to meet growing needs and maintain a secure critical skills pipelineEnsuring staff familiarity with and use of required processes and toolsProviding training, development, and knowledge-sharing opportunities for staffIdentification of unique critical skill needs for technology development and mission applications; coordination with other SSSD functional areas as necessary to establish and maintain a critical skill pipelineIdentification of process, best practice, training, and common tool/reference needs relevant to technology development and mission unique applications, including collaboration with the Division Technology Council, various business areas, and functional areas; development of a roadmap to address needsOwnership of the development and maintenance of common tools and processesOwnership of the development and maintenance of relevant processes and/or best practicesOwnership of the development and maintenance of training materials relevant to mission specific technologies and applicationsFacilitation-in conjunction with the Division Technology council-of collaboration amongst technology experts across Northrop Grumman programs, divisions, and sectorsIndependent review support for program/project kick-off, technology insertion into programs, RFI and proposal responses, issue response deep dives, etc.Development of inputs for Indirect, Overhead, and NCTA budget requests and prioritiesFiscally-responsible management of allocated Indirect budgetSupport to the Chief Technologist for special projects or additional capacitiesBasic Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Chemical, Computer Engineering or other Engineering field from an accredited institution7 years of experience in design, development, or system engineering of space hardware or softwareLeadership experience in technology development, strategy development, program management, and/or functional managementProven leadership experience managing a multi-disciplinary engineering team including technologists and subject matter expertsTop Secret and SCI security clearance with completed Counter Intelligence Polygraph ExamPreferred QualificationsActive special access clearance(s) relevant to technology development and/or resiliency14 years of experience developing hardware for military or spacecraft applicationsMaster of Science or PhD Degree in Science or Engineering field from an accredited institutionFamiliarity with NGSP processes and proceduresExcellent verbal & written communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills and proven leadership abilitiesPrior leadership role in technology development, resiliency, and/or space security programRecognition within the broader organization as a Subject Matter Expert, Responsible Design Engineer, or Integrated Product Team lead for Space Systems Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
