Responsibilities:
PULSE (Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments) Operations Department is actively looking for a Nuclear Facilities Operations Specialist II to provide support during all activities. PULSE is a nuclear facility located approximately 1,000 feet underground in the forward area of the NNSS. This role currently provides support to Subcritical Experiments, the Underground Complex Enhancement Project, and any future projects located at the NNSS.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and coordinate operations and maintenance at nuclear facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
• Access buildings, conduct walk-downs, inspections and/or monitoring rounds to verify facility readiness to conduct or continue operations. This may include performing normal and emergency operation of installed facility structures, systems, and components in support of facility activities to ensure applicable requirements are met (i.e., Standard Operating Procedures [SOPs], Technical Safety Requirements [TSRs], DOE Orders, etc.).
• Verify system lineups in accordance with approved procedures and checklists to ensure operability.
• Provide support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (i.e., fissile material handling, chemical, explosive and radiological, etc.).
• Exercise independent judgment within level of responsibility. Apply knowledge and training to ensure all activities are conducted safely and consistently in compliance with applicable requirements.
• Promptly correct or any hazard or potential hazard to supervision.
• Participate in and embrace MSTS safety initiatives.
• Previous performed duties by company directives to maintain required programs to facilitate safe and reliable facility operations.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities designated by management.
• Nuclear Facility Worker – This position is subject to the requirements of DOE Order 426.2.
• Perform other duties assigned by Management.

Qualifications:

• Bachelorxe2x80x99s degree or equivalent in field related to the position plus at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience working with requirements-based systems for areas such as nuclear material operations, facility operations, maintenance, radiological facilities, high explosives operations, or chemical handling, storage, transfer, and controlled release activities.
• Training or experience in areas related to nuclear operations of nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant or U.S. Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program is a plus.
• Ability to read and follow detailed instructions utilizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and Outlook desired.
• The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada). The PULSE is located in the forward areas of the NNSS.
• Work schedule for this position will be 4/10s, Monday xe2x80x93 Thursday (subject to change).
• Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
• Must possess a valid driverxe2x80x99s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Annual salary range for this position is: $77,334.40 – $116,001.60.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
