Job Description:
RFSUNY AIM Photonics is seeking a Manager for Operations at the Rochester NY, Test, Assembly and Packaging (TAP) Facility. The AIM Photonics TAP facility is a 300mm wafer compatible full service microelectronic and integrated photonic packaging facility available to public and private organizations for prototype development. Beyond prototyping, TAP is capable of supporting ramps to low-volume production with the goal of allowing partners to reach volumes that allow transitioning of packaging and testing recipes to full volume commercial packaging facilities. Building a scale-up ecosystem with partnerships that allow the smooth transition from low prototype manufacturing readiness levels (MRL), through the “valley of death” to high MRLs and transition to commercial partners is a key goal as TAP expands its customer base and capabilities. The facility houses more than 80 newly purchased, state-of-the-art tools including wafer scale and chip scale capabilities.
The chosen candidate will manage operations at TAP and will be responsible for directing, planning, and execution of customer orders. The Manager will report to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible the direct supervision of the engineering and technician staff working in a semiconductor environment. Other responsibilities include:
- Personnel Management: Provide direction and guidance to employees utilizing management guidelines and general policies. Supervision, coordination and monitoring of Employees’ performance. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements.
- Operations of the facility: Establishing, maintaining and auditing routines, schedules and procedures for all operational aspects of the facility, within a quality framework in accordance with company standards. Implement assignments based on an understanding of preferred production processes in semiconductor packaging. Ensure all operations are carried on in an appropriate, safe and cost-effective way. Improve operational management systems, processes and best practices
- Hiring and Staffing: Involved in staffing decisions, training, and driving engagement efforts to achieve the employee’s highest potential.
- Customer Support: Responsible for meeting customer requirements, on time delivery, quality and continuous improvement efforts. Support business development.
- Reporting: Provide management with progress reports and presentations.
- Procedures and Safety: Maintain a safe work environment. Sound knowledge of EHS within manufacturing environments.
- Purchasing: Purchase materials, plan inventory and oversee warehouse efficiency.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements for Operations Manager at the AIM Rochester Test, Assembly and Packaging Facility.
- BS, MS, or PhD degree with experience.
- 3-4 years Experience in electronic or photonic packaging
- 3-4 years Experience in personnel management
- Program management skills preferred
- Provide leadership, oversight and direction to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the TAP’s goals and strategies. Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of the facility collaborating with other groups within the organization. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals per requirements for any direct reports.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- An experienced professional in photonics who will be able to lead the operations side of the TAP organization. This is an opportunity for a skilled manager with experience in packaging to lead a strong electronic photonic packaging facility. The tool set is completely new with many tools having custom capabilities.
