Role Summary

The 2nd Grade Teacher at Ocean View Christian Academy is directly responsible to the Administration. They are partners first with OV Church in seeing that the parents and children are taught the way of salvation through Jesus Christ as they disciple students’ in the Word of God. Second, the Teacher will challenge their students academically to excel in their studies so that they will be thoroughly prepared for higher learning. Teachers are contracted for one year (10 months), with the offer to return determined by yearly evaluations.

Qualifications

• Have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education.

• Be an active member in good standing in a local Christian church.

• Have a personal relationship with Christ.

• Communicate effectively with peers, parents, and children.

Responsibilities

SPIRITUAL

• Maintain a consistent and growing walk with the Lord, seeking to put Him first in everything.

• Discern each student’s relationship with the Lord and lead them to be a strong disciple.

• Continually integrate Scriptural principles into all subject areas and show them in lesson plan objectives.

INSTRUCTION

• Be professional and enthusiastic in your teaching.

• Teach for your students to learn.

• Be current in training in your area of responsibility.

• Be developmentally appropriate for your grade level.

• Uphold appropriate expectations for students.

• Know the student’s abilities and needs as an individual and work with them.

• Examine standardized test results.

• Read applicable information in the cumulative folders.

• Maintain alertness to each student in the class through all their activities.

• Follow the curriculum established for the school.

• Work with administration in evaluating new materials.

• Enhance curriculum with related field trips, activities, special projects, etc.

• Be involved in effective long and short-term planning.

• Submit/plan one week of lesson plans and maintain a substitute folder at all times.

• Follow approved lesson plans.

• Administer standardized testing.

• Participate in professional development opportunities.

• Additional coursework.

• Attend ACSI (or other) conventions.

• Faculty devotions and meetings.

• In-service training.

• Professional reading.

• Maintain 20 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) each year.

PROFESSIONALISM

• Be prepared and on time for class each day.

• Be prompt at all meetings and school functions.

• Assist in morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students.

• Keep the administration informed of needs and potential problems related to the general welfare of the school.

• Carry out all other duties as assigned by the administration.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

• Expect obedience and respect from students at all times.

• Believe in your students, encourage them, motivate them, exhort them, and discipline them.

• Treat every student equally, giving special help when needed to any student.

• Be sensitive to your student’s needs.

• Establish your classroom in a way that will motivate your students yet knowing that your room may be multi-use.

PERSONAL

• Maintain an atmosphere of loving discipline that is promoted by proper structure, organization, respect for each student, open communication, and a loving spirit.

• Maintain open communication with parents through MySchoolWorx, phone calls, emails, parent conferences, report cards, etc.

• Assist parents in the development of their children spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.

• Develop and maintain a personable and professional relationship with each colleague.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25,000.00 – $27,000.00 per year
