Summary
Olin College of Engineering is a small college with an outsized impact. Founded in 1997 and located in Needham Massachusetts, Olin was recently named the #1 engineering education innovator in a report commissioned by MIT. The Olin curriculum emphasizes design, teamwork, real-world problems and pedagogies, while encouraging students to become partners in their own learning. At Olin, students ask questions about the impact of their work on society, and, over four years, students develop into explorers and creators who design their own educational path forward. Olin College is not just a leading engineering college, but it has a dual mission to lead transformation in engineering education around the world. As Olin evolves under the leadership of our new president, Dr. Gilda Barabino, we seek to more explicitly center equity and access in our educational efforts. Olin College of Engineering seeks employees who are passionate about working collaboratively within the Olin community to support the College’s mission and vision for the future.
The office of Health and Wellness is part of the Student Affairs and Resources (StAR) group, which includes most extracurricular student-facing functions of the College (residential life, health and wellness, student equity and inclusion, international student support, study away, student activities, academic support, disability services, post-graduate planning). The StAR team works together to coordinate student support and opportunities.
The Director of Wellness plays a lead role in supporting holistic student development, fostering a strong and positive sense of self and community amongst students, and advancing Olin’s mission in this small (~360 students), residential, close-knit community. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of evidence-based wellness education, prevention, promotion, and support for students. The Director will lead outreach efforts, events, and workshops in the areas of alcohol and drug education, sexual heath, mental health, stress management, and other wellness related areas; in this capacity, they coordinate closely with Residence Life, the Office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access, and the Director of Non-Discrimination Initiatives. As part of this coordination, this position serves on the Student C.A.R.E. Team and coordinates emergency response management for those resident students needing additional follow-up and support. They are also responsible for management of multiple relationships and systems including student health and mental health services. As a department of one with authority over and responsibility for many key aspects of student health and wellness, the Director must be able to effectively manage competing priorities.
