Olivet College, a liberal arts college in south central Michigan invites applications for a Collegiate Recovery Outreach Counselor. This contracted service is funded by an institutional grant and will provide services on-campus approximately 20 hours per week. The current grant funding runs from February 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023.
As a relationship-based institution, it is important that these services be provided in-person on the college campus.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Counseling, Health and Wellness, the Collegiate Recovery Outreach Counselor will develop, coordinate, and deliver integrated outreach as a preventive measure to spearhead a comprehensive, developmental program for collegiate recovery services related to substance use disorders (SUD). As part of this prevention work, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing services designed to support students wanting sobriety or help minimizing substance use including counseling, raise the level of student, faculty, and staff awareness of SUD, including risk factors, as well as to provide best practices for the provision of prevention and recovery support by providing sober events. It is anticipated that work hours will be divided between daytime and early evening, with some limited weekend hours in support of specific events.

$60.00 per hour

Qualifications
- Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment and with a team of clinicians
- Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with a variety of audiences including students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Ability to establish professional relationships, interact effectively with diverse constituencies, and maintain confidentiality when required
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or related field, preferred
- Demonstrated experience working in prevention and SUD with student populations, preferred
- 2+ years of full-time professional experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating community health programs, preferred
- Proficient in word processing (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher), e-mail and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) / student database management systems
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to set priorities while managing multiple and complex demands
- Ability to adapt to evolving office processes and maintain sense of humor in a high pressure, unprotected work environment
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material
- Ability to work effectively with all college constituents including students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and parents
- Accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of work
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support for the provision of a comprehensive prevention program at the College
- Coordinate and assist in the provision of trainings for faculty, staff, and student audiences, of which some evening/weekend work is required
- Coordinate the production and dissemination of project-related educational material
- Provide counseling for students seeking sobriety or minimizing support
- Provide a mental health and SUD prevention information campaign regarding available mental health and SUD prevention services, warning signs of SUD, and a strong focus on self-care strategies and techniques
- When appropriate, coordinate and conduct focus groups with student audiences to solicit feedback regarding proposed project materials, activities, and student body needs
- Create and engage in an array of health promotion programs that promote awareness of core mental health and SUD concerns to all members of the University community
- Coordinate with internal and external campus community members to develop and implement an activity calendar, agendas, and program materials for meetings and other project activities
- Plan, design, coordinate, organize, implement, and assess a comprehensive array of health promotion programs that address critical mental health and SUD issues affecting college-aged students
- Work with the student intern to provide sober programming to minimize the stigma of sobriety
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all programming and outcome related to the work and campus activities
- Collaborate to identify underserved, marginalized groups to ensure sensitivity to issues of diversity and privilege in creating and delivering messages of care to the student body
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Counseling, Health, and Wellness
- Provide service excellence through polite, informed, accessible, and professional engagement with students, faculty and staff regarding Health+Wellness Center (HWC) operations.
- Maintain student records and clinician scheduling in electronic medical record software
- Be trained and apply HIPAA, FERPA and other mandated regulations in the HWC
- Assist with appropriate electronic paperwork, and resolve routine administrative issues related to office functions using established college policies and procedures
- Maintain current HWC flyers, brochures, and general information related to CRP (Collegiant Recovery Program) and SUAA (Substance use, abuse or addiction educational/support group)
- Assist with HWC events and workshops working with the intern

Physical Environment
Office duties conducted within a professional office setting with the need to access campus buildings with stairs and complete campus errands. Regular computer keyboard use. Some light to medium lifting (10-40 lb.) may be required.
