POSITION DETAILS
FUNCTION
This is a full-time staff position with a primary responsibility to contribute to the vitality of the campus community, academic program, and student experience by building a strong gospel choir program of 80 or more students in one or more ensembles. Primary accountabilities include: heavy external recruiting and serving as director of the gospel choir. Other duties will include working collaboratively with the admissions department on events and recruitment activities and managing a budget and scholarship program. This position reports primarily to the chair of the arts and humanities department for academic aspects of the position and secondarily to the director of admissions for recruiting aspects of the position.
PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES
The success of the gospel choir director will be illustrated by:
1. A fully-enrolled, active and visible gospel choir ensemble(s) that meet(s) the recruiting goals of the institution and contributes to a vibrant campus community.
2. Enthusiastic student participants as measured by high levels of participation and retention/persistence of gospel choir members.
3. Effective collaboration with internal and external constituencies to achieve performance outcomes 1 and 2 above.
4. Behaviors and actions that contribute to a positive, inclusive and respectful environment in the gospel choir for a diverse population of students.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. In consultation with the director of admissions and the provost, create and execute a plan for external recruiting of new incoming students who will participate in one or more gospel choir ensembles, including sourcing prospective students and assisting them through the admissions process;
2. In collaboration with the provost, establish plan for growing participation in the gospel choir(s), including annual recruiting and retention goals;
3. Meet or exceed annual enrollment and recruiting targets;
4. Maintain accurate and current records and a travel schedule appropriate for recruitment goals and within approved budgets;
5. Work collaboratively with the music faculty to assist potential music majors/minors with the required audition process;
6. Provide leadership for the gospel choir, including serving as director.
7. Work to create a positive and inclusive environment in which students can learn and achieve to the highest level of their ability;
8. Establish positive relationships with external constituencies, including alumni, donors, and local and regional communities;
9. Work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies to bring added vibrancy to the campus and local community through music;
10. In consultation with appropriate parties (eg. Student Life, admissions, instrumental music faculty, alumni office), establish annual rehearsal and performance goals for the ensemble(s).
11. Effectively manage budgets and a scholarship program;
12. Demonstrate commitment to the college’s mission, academic and strategic visions and to the Olivet College Compact;
13. Meet all expectations of employees in general and staff members in particular as detailed in the Olivet Employee Plan (OEP);
14. Support institutional policies and follow college practices;
