Olivet College, a liberal arts college in south central Michigan with a long-standing commitment to inclusion and diversity, seeks an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the renovation of the graphic design curriculum and create a fresh vision for the graphic design degree. The successful candidate will also actively collaborate with faculty in the Media Production & Communication and Business Marketing programs to develop innovative cross-disciplinary opportunities for student engagement. The position is a full-time tenure track faculty position.

Position Requirements: MFA degree in Graphic Design, at least five years in the design industry, and college-level teaching experience preferred; Master’s degree in related field with at least five years’ experience in the design industry welcome. Interested individuals should be well versed in Adobe Creative Suite; candidates with specializations in print production, e-publishing and web design are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated successful teaching at the undergraduate level and will have relevant experience in the field of graphic design. Candidates must indicate a clear commitment to teaching and provide evidence of the ability to create positive and engaging learning experiences for students in and outside of the classroom. Candidates who are passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in a collaborative, collegial, and diverse academic environment are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to applicants with expressed interest and experience in collaborative program innovation and development, as well as applicants with demonstrated competence working with culturally diverse groups in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.
Position Responsibilities: Full-time faculty members teach 24 credit hours (or the equivalent) over two semesters. Faculty responsibilities also include advising and mentoring students, engaging in scholarly activities, and participating in other service activities in support of the college and its mission. Candidates must bring the ability to create a positive classroom experience and a commitment to mentoring undergraduates in a collaborative and diverse environment. The faculty member will work collaboratively with faculty in the Media Production & Communication and Business Marketing programs to develop cross-disciplinary opportunities for students with the end goal of creating a high-quality graphic design program that prepares students well via internships and other types of career preparation experiences.
