WORK OBJECTIVE:
Performs lead-level technical work in Water/Wastewater Treatment. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

Wastewater Treatment Assignment
• Ensures wastewater treatment is compliant with all regulatory standards and provides training and guidance to Class B, C and apprentice level wastewater operators.
• Operates and monitors all treatment equipment.
• Monitors various flow and additive rates of wastewater processing, e.g., effluent flow; pH, oxygen, and chemical levels; modifies flow and chemical feed rates to ensure appropriate levels.
• Monitors various operational aspects of wastewater processing, e.g., chemical use, power consumption, generator use, effluent/waste production, volume processing, equipment maintenance, dryer and reuse system operation.
• Collects and performs laboratory sample analysis to ensure adherence to regulatory chemical/additive parameters.
• Monitors chemical/additive inventory to ensure appropriate supply/stock levels at all times.
• Monitors processing equipment to ensure proper operating conditions; performs minor maintenance as necessary to maintain proper operations condition; performs basic troubleshooting in the event of malfunction and reports results to supervisor for timely resolution.
• Performs routine general maintenance in and around plant facilities, grounds, and equipment, e.g., transfer belts, presses, screens, fans, storage tanks, work stations.
• Maintains logs and records regarding plant operation during shift, e.g., flow rates, analysis results, chemical use, volume processing, equipment maintenance.
• Coordinates with collection and distribution crews on leaks, main breaks, or related critical events; responds to emergency call-in in the event of hurricane or related critical events.
• Provides training and direction to less experienced operator staff, e.g., equipment operations, rate/flow modifications, chemical/additive parameters.
• Performs routine maintenance and equipment repair.
• Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
• Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration and vendors;
• Ability to effectively, promptly, and accurately communicate during emergency situations or to avoid hazards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by a total of at least three (3) or more years of professional Water/Wastewater operator experience; demonstrated journey level computer literacy with standard software packages (e.g., word processors, email, Internet usage) with Microsoft Excel skills required; Florida Water/Wastewater Operator’s Certification Class “A” required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
