Job Title: Assistant Director of Development for Salem and Portland

SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Development for Salem and Portland (ADOD) is
responsible for developing the donor pipeline by managing a portfolio valued at
approximately $500K annually and comprised of 215 leadership annual donors and
acquisition prospects. The ADOD serves as the primary interface with the Salem community,
building strong relationships throughout the Mid-Willamette region. The ADOD will solicit all
Salem donors and a portfolio of donors in the Portland area. Asks include their annual gift,
planned giving, special events, as well as special projects.
The ADOD will accomplish annual goals through face-to-face meetings with prospects, phone
and email communication, written appeals, and organizational events. The ADOD will
additionally be responsible for identification of new prospects, conducting prospect research,
portfolio forecasting, maintenance of donor/prospect contact information in the Tessitura
database, and stewardship of donors.
Position requires the flexibility to frequently to travel between Salem and Portland, attend all
scheduled events, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits portfolio prospects. Writes proposals for presentation to
individual prospects and corporate partners prospects.
2. Utilize knowledge of prospects’ interests to develop and execute sophisticated, donor-
centered solicitation strategies for portfolio prospects. Plan strategies for their
involvement with the Oregon Symphony in collaboration with the VP for Development and
the Director of Development.
3. Manage relationships with Salem and Portland donors, developing individual strategies
for each donor to ensure appropriate stewardship and engagement.
4. Utilize opportunities such as education and outreach programs, rehearsals, chamber
music events, Parties of Note, and donor events with goal to identify and engage donors.
5. Cultivate, solicit, and steward current and potential Encore Society (planned giving)
members.
6. Track, manage, and record of portfolio activity in Tessitura database.
7. Plan, manage, and track processing of gifts to the Oregon Symphony in Salem (annual
gifts, event pre-commits/night of donations, Tessitura Database recording, invoicing, and
acknowledgements).
8. Actively engage in prospect identification and research to build a pipeline for new and
increased donors.
9. Manage special projects and relationships when appropriate or as needed by the
development department.
10. Work in conjunction with other members of the Development team such as the Director
of Stewardship and Events, Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations, and the
Assistant Director of Development, Annual Giving, to ensure annual appeals, the Gala,
and grants are representative of the Salem community.
11. Coordinate and manage the Oregon Symphony in Salem Advisory Committee as the staff
liaison. When requested, assist in providing staff support to board development
committees.
12. Work to support Gala attendance and fundraising goals as well as managing projects for
the set up and operation of the event.
13. Other duties as assigned.
