With minimal direction, the Assistant Editor will carry out editorial support tasks as required by the relevant discipline or project team; they will often work in conjunction with Editorial Assistants and assist more junior members of the team with any non-routine issues. With guidance from more senior members of Content Development teams, the Assistant Editor will also be given responsibility for a small number of simple first editions (e.g., standard monographs) from delivery of the manuscript through handover to Production, or the responsibility of managing of non-complex digital projects.1. With minimal supervision, provide editorial and administrative support at all stages of the editorial publishing process across all formats as part of the Content Development Team. Balance and prioritize projects with effective time-management skills, and deal efficiently with routine queries and tasks. Plans own workload, is accountable for own quality of work, and may help resolve non-routine issues escalated from Editorial Assistants.2. Set up projects in various internal systems, including complex and bespoke project records, ensuring without supervision that product/content data is accurate and complete.3. Process and track content and data, including loading, reviewing, editing, and manipulation in various systems, maintaining accurate tracking systems and producing samples and reports as required. Support the ongoing development and improvement of systems and workflows.4. Manage the contracting process, including issuing contracts, arranging for signature/countersignature, providing forms and documentation, handling routine contract queries, dealing with Royalties/Publications teams, maintaining contracting records, and supplying related information as required to other functions. Responsible for handling the more complicated contracts processes (e.g., open access contracts, contract cancellations, novations, and rights-reversion processes).5. Serve as a liaison to authors, including coaching authors on procedures, house style, and content-delivery preparations, and maintaining the relationship between authors and OUP. Identify process improvements to author interfaces and authors’ experience.6. Project manage a small number of first-edition projects from the point of author-delivery through handover to Production, with the responsibility for forward planning and working out own priorities. Work will include assessing manuscripts, preparing artwork lists and cover briefs, creating handover forms, completing handover to Production, preparing materials and notices for Sales and Marketing, and ensuring all content and product metadata is up to date and accurate in all systems.7. Project manage a small number of non-complex digital projects from commissioning through post-production, with the responsibility of forward planning and working out own priorities. Work may include commissioning authors and reviewers, liaising with authors and editors, reviewing and formatting manuscripts, recording and tracking content and data, preparing manuscripts and forms for Production, requesting post-production corrections, and generating status reports.8. Process and track payment requests through relevant systems to ensure timely and accurate payments to suppliers, authors, and freelancers. Process requests for complimentary access to products and services for editors, authors, and contributors.9. Work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues, including maintaining information flow between Editorial and other departments across OUP to ensure that the publishing process runs smoothly.10.
