Overview and Responsibilities:
CBS News and Television Stations is seeking a Manager of Human Resources to join our Baltimore Station in providing HR support to all employees, talent, and crew!
Responsibilities include providing practical and strategic advice on a wide variety of areas to enhance the staff’s engagement, performance, and overall experience.
The Manager, Human Resources will specifically focus on the following duties:
Serve as HRBP to all full time, part time, freelance and per diem employees at WJZ
Act as trusted advisor and resource to Station management, including GM, News Director, and Department Heads
Connect with staff and serve as a resource by providing real‐time advice and counseling and assess staff/crew engagement and morale
Partner with our internal HR partners on implementing performance management tools and resources (i.e., leadership training, mitigating bias, career pathing, etc.)
Field and resolve general performance management issues and employee relations matters such as replacements/terminations, performance issues, and incident‐based behavioral concerns
Partner effectively with the Investigations/ Employee Relations team for investigations into harassment, discrimination, or other complex allegations
At the direction of the VP HR, partner with Labor Relations and Employment Law for performance issues, staffing change/termination requests, and incident‐based behavioral concerns, as needed
Ensure that station is FCC compliant including but not limited to maintaining all applicable records, participate in FCC Audits, attending FCC required job fairs, and hosting required internships Employee/Labor Relations
In partnership with VP/HR, provide counsel to Dept. Heads, people leaders and employees on all employee relations matters; figure out underlying issues, brainstorm on solutions; document process and follow up as needed
As appropriate, collaborate with Employment Law and Labor Relations on matters involving WJZ union employees
Advise management in appropriate resolution of complex or sensitive employee relations Employee Engagement
Ensure employees feel connected to the organization. Support mission and values in ways that support business objectives. Ensure programs support the culture for the business unit and partner with assigned client leaders to execute on business unit specific programs
Identify, recommend, and coordinate individual and group training as needed
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of HRBP/Employee Relations experience, preferably in a News, entertainment, hospitality retail or other service/unionized environment
Proven track record of building trust and respect quickly in environments unfamiliar with HR
Able to work in a fast‐paced, ever‐changing environment where time is of the essence
Flexibility in work hours ‐ productions can be 24/7, 365
Additional Qualifications:
SHRM-CP or PHR Certification a plus!
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Previous Local News Station HR experience
Proven knowledge of employment laws and sound HR principles
Effective business partner with ability to build trust, influence senior management and drive organizational efficiency
Shown ability to deliver client focused HR solutions to business problems
Strategic problem solver with the ability to tactically translate ideas to workable solutions
Proven good judgment and ability to work autonomously or as part of high functioning team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of interpersonal and diplomacy skills
