Purpose Summary
Working from home, the Manager of Benefits is responsible for overseeing Benefits, 401(k), Pension, and leave of absence. The Benefits Manager will provide services to customers across the country. The Benefits Manager will oversee a team of Benefit & Leave Specialists.
Core Tasks and Responsibilities
Administer all employee benefit programs for ~4,000 customers, including, but not limited to medical, dental, vision, AD&D, STD, LTD, 401(k), pension and group life insurance;
Manage FMLA, short and long-term disability, and unpaid leave for school staff;
Manage Accommodation Process including review of medical documentation, engagement with management and staff, and communication of decisions related to request.
Manage approval of absences related to certain school events.
Lead and manage a team of five (5) benefit and leave specialists;
Oversee the administration of several state pension plans;
Ensure high-quality and timely response and resolution to customer/staff inquires;
Lead the annual open enrollment process including making recommendations to the senior leadership team on ways to provide plans of value to our customers, within the allocated budget;
Represent the organization as the primary contact with key benefit vendors and brokers;
Manage workers’ compensation claims, associated billings, complete OHSA reporting and work with insurance carrier;
Handle retirement inquiries and ensure accurate processing of requests;
Ensure payroll audits are completed on time and that errors are corrected and documented;
Approve 401(k) Loans and Hardship Requests as Plan Administrator;
Oversee billing management for carrier and vendor invoices;
Utilizing data, ensure customers are understanding and maximizing their provided benefits;
Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information; plan, develop and/or participate in area and industry surveys; analyze results of surveys and develop specific recommendations for review by management;
Handle escalated benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution;
Assist in information gathering for the completion of Form 5500; ensure compliance with recordkeeping in accordance with government regulations;
Oversee the maintenance of human resources records involving enrollment, application, and claims; and
Support new school start up and ensure plans meet all state and contractual requirements.
Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies
Four year college degree, with HR focus preferred
Four to eight years of HR experience, with a concentration in benefits
Experience with state pension and/or 401(k) required
Five years people management experience preferred
Experience working in with multiple states preferred
Experience working in a self-insured environment preferred
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. As required by the Colorado and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
Minimum full-time salary range is between $80,000 – $90,000.
