Pickens County Government Hiring for Assistant Finance Director at Jasper, GA Full Time

Pickens County Government is seeking a full time Assistant Finance Director.

Compensation will be based on experience.

This position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the department and in the preparation of financial statements and reports for the county.

Major Duties

• Monitors cash balances and transfers; records daily cash transactions, and prepares wire transfers as needed.
• Reconciles monthly statements and general ledger accounts as assigned.
• Records and provides numbers for new assets, calculates and applies annual depreciation.
• Audits expenditures over a set amount to ensure they are assets, reclassifies expenditures to appropriate expense accounts if required.
• Processes recurring journal entries: allocation to departments related to inventory costs.
• Works with Accounts Payable on stale dated checks, processes voided checks, issues stop payments as requested.
• Assists with 1099 reporting process.
• Analyzes revenues and expenditures under the current budget for all county departments.
• Prepares monthly budget reports for distribution; resolves discrepancies and makes adjustments as necessary.
• Assists in maintaining the county general ledger; prepares and posts entries to the general ledger, enters budget totals and revisions, prepares monthly and annual financial reports, and reviews entries for accuracy.
• Maintains multiple checking accounts; prepares and mails manual checks after approval of invoices; compiles data for entry by the Accounts Payable Coordinator.
• Assists with daily cash management of county funds; transfers funds between accounts as necessary and invests idle funds to receive maximum returns.
• Reviews all accounting transactions prior to posting to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles; enters all journal entries.
• Assists external auditors as requested.
• Assists personnel from other departments with resolving problems related to financial and accounting matters.
• Assists with the management and supervision of accounting policies and procedures.
• Establishes new account and line-item numbers for budget-coding purposes; explains numbering system to other departments and county personnel.
• Performs the duties of Finance Director in his/her absence.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
