The EDI CARES division is the lighthouse and home of Pierce College institutional and grant funded equity empowerment programs. These departments include: District Student Life and Engagement Offices and several Department of Education grants such as:
TRIO Legacy Scholars Programs: TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO Talent Search, and TRIO Upward Bound.
Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI). Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP).
Affinity and Identity Empowerment Programs for Native and Indigenous, Black and Brown Excellence, and LGBTQ and many more!

The Student Engagement Manager for Leadership Development and Student Media is responsible for the oversight of retention programs for District Student Life & Engagement. Responsibilities include providing management and the development of district student leadership curriculum, training, programming, and retention services. In addition, this position will provide retention management of district-wide student communication operations of all marketing, graphic design, and student district media for Fort Steilacoom Pioneer and Puyallup Post newspapers.
The Student Engagement Manager will be responsible for training, supervising, and developing equity-minded and socially conscious leadership opportunities for district student leaders and for all Pierce College students. The Student Engagement Manager will implement, and facilitate structured leadership programs by providing access for all students to quality out-of-classroom programs and activities that serve to enhance both the campus and community environments, and to encourage collaborative and socially conscience relationships within the campus community and the Pierce College service district. The Student Engagement Manager will collaborate with EDI CARES division team to coordinate districtwide student engagement programs that is in inclusive, accessible and empowering for all students to learn and lead with purpose and in excellence.
This position reports to the Director of Student Life & Engagement in the EDI CARES division.

Pierce College Fort Steilacoom – Located on a beautiful 140-acre site adjacent to a 340- acre community, recreational park, and Waughop Lake.
Pierce College Puyallup – Located on a luscious site with 125-acres of wooded land with beautiful hideaways.
Pierce College at JBLM – Located at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord military sites, serving many of our military and active-duty families that are serving our country.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Student Leadership Development and Training:
Provide onboarding training for all new News Media Student Leaders, including all student members of the Post and the Pioneer (student newspapers), District Student Marketing team, and the District Student Graphic Designers in collaboration with staff.
Create and expand student leadership development and training in coordination with EDI CARES division team for onboarding of new Student Leaders.
Develop trainings for Student Leaders using the EDI CARES Legacy of Excellence standards and anti-racist frameworks.
Create ongoing professional development opportunities for Student Leaders in collaboration with Office of Student Life and EDI CARES division staff.
Provide guidance and leadership opportunities for Student Leaders as needed.
Develop and implement engagement activities such as off campus learning opportunities: college campus tours/visits, community service, conferences, and alternative break activities in coordination with Student Life district team and EDI CARES division staff.
Media and Communications Retention Management:
Provide an affirming, empowering and engaging inclusive environment for students to learn important student journalism skills, including interviewing, reporting, writing, videography, graphic design, and integrity.
Provide an equitable and anti-racist lens for the Student News Media outlets.
Provide retention management of District Student Leaders of news media outlets Pierce District Voice – Fort Steilacoom Pioneer and Puyallup Post.
Assess student needs and delegate tasks to student leaders based on strengths, skills, interests and learning opportunities.
Collaborate with district/division staff to coordinate programming for district student media teams such as team building, conferences, retreats to building community and solidarity of student leaders.
Administrative and Other Duties:
Manage and maintain district student communications and accounts of multiple platforms such as CANVAS, social media, websites pages, newsletters, and print.
Coordinate and manage engagement programs calendar to ensure leadership trainings, programs, and communication timelines are met.
Lead in coordination with district team for district student programs alongside Student Government, Activities Board, and meetings and professional development.
Reconcile purchases, contracts, motor pool relating to engagement programs as needed. Manage fiscal responsibilities relevant to engagement programs relating to leadership development and media communications retention services.
Contribute to the establishment of linkages with other community colleges participating in the Council of Unions and Student Programs.
Assist in the coordination and implementation of an institutional effectiveness outcomes assessment for Student Services.
Contribute to achieving the goals of the division by assisting the Associate Directors in EDI CARES Office.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Student Services, Education, Business, Communications or a related field.
Required Experience:
Two years’ relevant experience working with student of diverse backgrounds. Experience with student newspapers, media, communications, student program design, engagement, supervision and evaluations.
Special Requirements:
Must have reliable transportation. Willing to travel, using own vehicle.

Terms of Employment:
This is a full time (40 hours per week) classified, overtime-eligible position with Pierce College District. This position requires completion of a six-month probationary period. The primary work location will be at Pierce College, Fort Steilacoom, but infrequent travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. These positions may be subject to reassignment between campuses or sites.
Salary & Benefits:
The starting salary range of this position is $4,425.00 – $5,136.00 a month (dependent upon qualifications), with annual periodic increments up to $5,813.00. However, your paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. There is an outstanding benefits package which is worth an additional value equivalent to about 30% of your salary. This position works indoors in an office environment.
