What’s the Job?
Peoria’s Development and Engineering Department/Building Development Division has an excellent opportunity for a Plans Examiner II. This position will provide advanced technical and paraprofessional building review support. This is accomplished by preparing and completing plan reviews of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical for compliance. Coordinating work with other staff, project managers and departments, assisting the public, performing research, and providing interpretations. In addition to being a results oriented people person, here are a few more job requirements:
• 4-6 years’ experience in the same or similar positions.
• Two-year college program or equivalent combinations of similar knowledge.
• ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification within one year of hire. Two Commercial Inspector Certifications upon hire.
• Advanced technical skills.
The ideal candidate for this position:
Will work for the Development and Engineering Department, Building Division, performing paraprofessional work that may include; reviews of complex buildings, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and structural construction documents, and reports for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with applicable adopted codes as amended, city ordinances, and construction standards. Advises engineers, architects, contractors, government officials, utility representatives, and the general public on code changes, interpretations and methods. Plan review activities include maintaining records and files associated with the plan review process, enters plan review discrepancies into a computerized tracking system, performs various administrative tasks, provides oral and written responses to inquiries from engineers, architects, contractors, city staff, and city management. Attends Development and Pre-application meetings on a regular basis. Provides superior leadership and expertise to fellow plan examiners and internal staff.
Assists with the development counter answering questions of a technical nature and explaining City policies and Codes. Maintains detailed records and assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe and efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned.
