The City of Pittsburg seeks a POLICE RECORDS CLERK for the Police Department’s Records Division.
The Police Records Clerk performs a variety of technical and clerical law enforcement support work in the Police Department. This position gathers, records, maintains, retrieves, and distributes confidential law enforcement data and information; performs a variety of record keeping functions including processing police reports; provides assistance to the public at the front counter and over the phone; and performs other duties as assigned. Incumbents must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and split shifts.

About the Police Department
The protection of life and property is the Police Department’s highest priority. The Operations Bureau is responsible for the management of the Patrol Division and the Traffic Unit. The Patrol Division represents the largest component of the Police Department. The Support Services Bureau is responsible for the management of the Investigations Division, Property/Evidence Division, Code Enforcement Division, Records Division, School Resource Officer Program, and the Gang/Vice Team. The Support Services Bureau also provides in-service training and certified courses to ensure compliance with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and applicable educational mandates for all sworn and civilian police personnel.
The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. We have about 270 full time employees and about 350 employees total (depending on the season). Pittsburg is currently organized into the following departments: City Management, Community Development (Building, Engineering, and Planning), Community Services (Housing Authority, Pittsburg Power Company, and the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency), Economic Development and Recreation, Human Resources, Finance, Police, and Public Works (Operations/Maintenance, Utilities, Facilities, Parks, and Water Treatment). Fire Protection services are provided by the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire Department.

Education: Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma supplemented by coursework in record keeping or office automation or college level courses in business, office administration, public administration or related field.
Experience: Two years of experience providing administrative or office support.
License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance is required.

2. Testing process (Weighted 100%): Testing assessment process will consist of the following: multiple-choice written examination (weighted 50%) and a structured oral board panel interview with subject matter experts (weighted 50%). The City reserves the right to utilize alternate testing methods if deemed necessary.
3. Eligibility List: Candidates who successfully complete all testing components with a passing rating will be placed on an eligibility list (hiring list). Candidates must obtain a 70% or above to be considered as passing. The hiring department may contact candidates on the list for a hiring interview to fill the vacancy.
4. Pre-Employment Screening/ New Hires: All offers of employment are conditional and permanent new hires are subject to complete a pre-employment background screening that will consist of reference checks, livescan/fingerprint check and a civil check. Other background screening may consist of a credit check, medical examination, psychological examination, polygraph, drug testing, and full background investigation depending on the job characteristics. All new hires are required to show that they are eligible to work in the United States. All of these processes must be successfully completed before employment begins.
