As the Accounts Payable/Receivable – Disbursement Professional you will be responsible for our client accounting process within our Flex team. You should be skilled at researching and reviewing any account discrepancies, processing, verifying and posting checks into our platform, as well as maintain records regarding payments and account statuses. As part of a larger team you will coordinate with other team members as needed to ensure all accounts receivables, payables, ledgers, and journals are up to date.

Please note: Due to the nature of this role you will be required to work from our main office located Downtown Charleston. Parking is provided!

Responsibilities:

• Receive and scan all incoming checks promptly and accurately
• Verify the accuracy of check information and reconcile discrepancies
• Ensure that checks are applied to the appropriate case or matter
• Collaborate with legal teams to gather necessary information for correct allocation
• Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in check applications
• Cut checks using CheckWriter
• Ensuring a balanced ledger within Quickbooks and Litify
• Ensure compliance with firm policies and accounting standards
• Record and maintain accurate records of all outgoing payments
• Process client disbursements efficiently and accurately
• Coordinate with legal staff to obtain necessary approvals for disbursements
• Clear out any liens associated with client accounts
• Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records
• Prepare reports as needed for management and auditing purposes
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting regulations and firm policies
• Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and practices

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, preferred
• Proven experience as an Accounting Specialist, preferably in a law firm or legal environment
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Effective communication skills for collaboration with legal teams and clients
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
