Job Title: Statutory Accountant

Summary:

The Statutory Accountant is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, bank and investment reconciliations, journal entries, analysis, premium tax and regulatory filings for a workers’ compensation insurance carrier.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Prepare journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements on both a Statutory and GAAP basis
• Provide the leadership team with ad-hoc reporting as needed
• Prepare all investment account and reconciliations, including Schedule D
• Remain current on accounting and reporting updates through continuing education
• Responsible for escheat procedures and reporting
• Post daily banking activity
• Compile and files regulatory reports with various states
• Prepare monthly reinsurance cessions/billing
• Process bank reconciliations
• Perform data integrity analysis
• Process quarterly/annual/ premium tax filings
• Participate in NCCI financial calls
• Prepare collateral analysis
• Participate in financial audits
• Participate in budgeting and forecasting
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned

Competencies:

• Advanced Excel skills with the ability to pass an excel test
• Great Plains Dynamics experience a plus
• Detail oriented with the ability to pass a detail orientation test
• Strong interpersonal and organization skills
• Strong problem solving ability
• Strong analytical skills
• Proficient using computer applications including Microsoft Office
• Comfort using internet/online based software

Education/Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Business or Accounting
• Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
• Statutory experience highly preferred

Physical Demands:

• Regularly talks throughout the day during both in person conversations and via telephone
• Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects or tools
• Regularly required to sit for up to 8 or more consecutive hours
• Occasionally lifts up to 10lbs
• Regularly walks through a multi-level office environment
• Regularly types using a computer keyboard for up to 8 hours per day
• Regularly uses a computer mouse for up to 8 hours per day

Work Environment:

• While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in an office setting

Schedule/Expected Hours of Work:

• The Statutory Accountant will be expected to work Full Time. This schedule will include a minimum of a 7.5 hour day Monday-Friday to fall between the hours of 7am and 6pm.
