Job Summary
Responsible for providing overall strategic leadership and operational oversight for all Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), focusing on operational and financial performance improvement, and sustained strategic growth. Partners with the Vice President of Ambulatory and Service Lines to manage all aspects of an ASC operations, processes, and staffing (including Anesthesia).
Provides direction and support toward the attainment of company goals and objectives. Ensures that the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations is achieved, while improving clinical and financial operations. Partners with the VP of Ambulatory services to assist with oversight of outpatient imaging for Prisma Health and in collaboration with our imaging partners. Will also oversee strategic growth of our musculoskeletal service line in collaboration with our orthopedic physician leaders, medical group leaders and acute and ambulatory leaders.
Accountabilities
Advise executive team on strategic growth opportunities and develop short term and long-term recommendations. Drive operational excellence throughout all levels of the ASCs and Imaging Centers and identify and develop recommendations. Develop, Distribute, and manage timely statistical performance indicators (KPI’s) to use in evaluating overall service unit performance. Monitor all key metrics and proactively report to leadership any areas of risk or opportunity. Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure all regulatory, licensing, and credentialing meet and/or exceed requirements – 10%
Develop, monitor, and control staffing, operational budget, capital budget, and external contracts in partnership with the Vice President of Ambulatory and Service Lines. Closely monitor variations in the financial performance of the facilities (ASC and Imaging) to avoid cash flow problems. Ensure compliance to policies and procedures as related to internal controls as well as with government regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies (AAAHC, ACR). – 10%
Partner with the Vice President of Ambulatory and Service Lines and VP of HR on talent acquisition processes. Lead, coach, and mentor staff, partnering across company departments as needed. Partner and collaborate with the Medical Director and serve as a liaison in timely problem areas and conflict resolution with medical staff. – 10%
Promote positive relationships and a culture of excellence between employees and practitioners. Promote the organizational mission and cultural values of Prisma Health. Ensure delivery of compassionate quality care. Review complaints or concerns and seek timely resolution from patients or families about clinical services provided at ASCs. Oversight of the clinical departments of nursing in collaboration with nursing leadership. – 10%
Oversight and collaboration with leaders for central supply, information technology, medical records, environmental services, sterile processing, payor contracting, revenue cycle, etc. within the ASC’s and Imaging centers in collaboration with our imaging management partner. Proactively develop procedures to promote workplace safety and safe work practices. Work in conjunction with the Medical Executive Committee in the evaluation and development of existing and new surgical services. Collaborate with the Medical Director and ASC Directors in the review and revision of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations for the ASC’s and Imaging Centers on a routine basis. – 10%
Stay current with changes in the healthcare environment and act accordingly in the best interest of Prisma Health. Evaluate and develop continuous quality improvement programs, with measurable improvements in defined quality indicators. Review and ensure correction of quality-of-care issues. – 10%
Provide strategic direction, goal setting, and input to key strategic, clinical and operational issues facing Prisma Health within the context of assigned service lines – 10%
Identify new program development opportunities lead by the development of new clinical programs and the establishment of service line strategy and goals. – 10%
Collaboration with Prisma Health leaders in the areas of Acute Care, Ambulatory, Post-Acute, Medical Group, Quality, Care Coordination Institute, Academics, Finance, IT, Nursing, Strategic Services and other areas to ensure successful implementation of approved service line strategies.. – 10%
Monitor and assess key Prisma Health performance metrics using a data-driven, balanced scorecard approach. – 10%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of team members that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff at Prisma Health or affiliate and will have direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s Degree – Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field
10 years – Proven leadership experience in Ambulatory Surgery Setting
Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Visionary leader who will encourage a service line ‘esprit de corps’ and excitement by his or her strategic vision, charisma and commitment to service excellence that spans the entire care continuum.
Comfortable working in a large health care system in a highly matrixed environment designed to reduce management ‘silos’ and facilitate communication and goal achievement across a complex and geographically dispersed organization.
Committed to forging collegial working relationships with all stakeholders including employed providers, community providers and private groups
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, facilities, provider groups, geography, care delivery platforms, and organizations to establish and achieve service line goals that achieve Prisma Health strategic, financial, operational, and community health priorities.
