Clark County is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Public Services Specialist position.
The Public Services Specialist position acts as the first public contact person for callers and/or visitors to various County or local government offices where relations may be sensitive, difficult or strained. Public Services Specialist provide information to the public regarding County, agency or departmental activities and functions and also perform a variety of basic office support.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.
This posting may be used to fill vacancies in various departments within Clark County.
Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.
Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be Bond Funded. Bond Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of bond funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be used to fill permanent-intermittent positions. The selected candidates will work a regular schedule of more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours in a workweek. They will be paid at the approved hourly rate for actual hours worked. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.
Some positions may be used to fill job share positions. Job Share positions are for two (2) employees performing in permanent positions of the same classification who share one specific job. Time worked will be 21 hours per week. Job Share employees will be paid at their hourly rate for actual hours worked. Sick and vacation leave benefits will accrue on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time demonstrated reception or telephone operations experience.

Licenses and Certifications: Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License. Specified positions may be required to have bilingual skill in a language other than English.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Deals with visitors and callers who may have significant problems or require specialized services or in situations where relations are often confrontational or strained. Determines the nature of the visit or the problem and explains detailed policies, procedures and regulations related to the department to which assigned; disseminates, explains and receives applications and printed materials related to the function or program to which assigned. Answers the telephone for an office or offices; determines the nature of the call; directs callers to the proper person or takes messages. Interviews individuals to obtain basic information; may determine eligibility for specified programs following specific guidelines. Provides factual information regarding the functions, activities, policies and procedures of the department to which assigned. May log calls, assist in placing long-distance or other calls, or assist County or agency staff in using telephone equipment special applications. Makes a preliminary check to determine the cause of telephone malfunctions; notifies the proper repair staff or service. Performs a variety of basic office support duties such as collating materials, distributing incoming mail, preparing materials for mailing, completing forms, proofreading typed or printed materials, and/or typing correspondence reports and other materials. Keeps apprised of office activities and functions so as to communicate this information to the public. Uses a computer to verify information and may make simple updates. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; may assist in the formulation of program policies and procedures. May instruct other office staff in the use of telephone equipment. May provide relief and assistance to other office support assignments.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. May be required to remain seated for prolonged periods of time.
