THE POSITION
This is a Citywide Promotional Opportunity for employees in permanent, allocated positions in any department within the City of Vallejo. This recruitment is being conducted to fill three full-time vacancy. The list established by this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited term, and temporary vacancies for up to two years.
The City of Vallejo is seeking a candidate for the Public Works Supervisor position, as collaborative members of the City’s Public Works Department. The Public Works Supervisor will have strong supervisory experience and a background in either public building maintenance, grounds maintenance, or street and traffic maintenance. This position will be required to supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of Public Works Maintenance Division staff responsible for providing public works maintenance, repair and construction services for an assigned section; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The ideal Public Works Supervisor will be an innovative and creative problem solver with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate concisely and effectively to internal and external constituents. The incumbent is this position will be responsible for ensuring monthly pre and post Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) reports are completed for their assigned locations. The perfect candidate should have the capability use sound judgment, have integrity, and be impartial when making decisions for the employees they supervise. The Public Works Supervisor should be dependable, fair, lead by example and be a team player.
While not required, the possession of, or ability to obtain a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and a Class A Driver’s License is highly desirable.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from an Assistant Maintenance Superintendent.
Exercises direct supervision over maintenance staff.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Experience:
Four years of increasingly responsible journey level experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities including some lead supervisory responsibility.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in public works maintenance, construction, and repair.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

Disaster Service Workers – All City of Vallejo (“City”) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers (“DSW”) by state law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all DSW-related training as assigned and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Veteran’s Preference – Veteran’s preference points will be applied in accordance with Civil Service Rule 24. A copy of the DD 214 form must be filed at time of application.
