Medical Translator & Office Support

Provides accurate interpretation and translation of critical medical information in direct service to physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical staff who are seeing patients who cannot speak or understand English, when specifically required. Strive to provide a positive and relaxed experience so patients feel comfortable disclosing sensitive information about their medical conditions. Sometimes cultural misunderstandings happen between patients and physicians, nurse practitioners, and medical staff; the Medical Translator will aid in the process of avoiding those situations.

MEDICAL TRANSLATOR DUTIES:

• Precisely and accurately interpret/translate critical medical advice and information given by the provider into equivalent terminology in the patient’s native language.
• Assists in translating medical text from English to Spanish and vice versa.
• May translate patient education information as specifically requested.
• Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and clinical employees.
• Assists with patient follow-up as necessary, including contacting patients, when necessary, with appointment reminders, follow-up reminders, general check-ins.
• Bridge cultural gaps between patients and healthcare providers which may impede providing the needed information.
• Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA policies and standards.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

OFFICE SUPPORT DUTIES:

• Helping organize and maintain office common areas.
• Performing general office support duties and errands.
• Managing filing system.
• Recording information as needed.
• Greeting patients and visitors as needed.
• Updating paperwork, maintaining documents, and word processing.
• Assist with the coordination of events taking place at the medical centers.
• Maintaining supply inventory.
• Maintaining office equipment as needed.
• Aiding with client reception as needed.
• Experience as a virtual assistant.
• Creating, maintaining, and entering information into databases.

Requirements*

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1 – 2 years of directly related experience as a translator/interpreter.
• Certification/Licensure Interpreter/Translator Certificate and/or Certificate of Competency from an approved Interpreter/Translator training program.
• Experience working with geriatric patients is preferred.
• EMR system experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.

REQUIRED SKILLS OR LICENSES:

• Fluency in English and Spanish languages.
• Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
• Ability to translate critical medical information precisely and accurately from English to the patient’s native language of Spanish and vice versa.
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
• English and Spanish written translation skills.
• Listening skills.
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of records and information.
• Ability to maintain proper etiquette and patience when interacting and communicating over the telephone or in-person when handling stressful situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year
