Overview:
The HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic must demonstrate a high level of facility maintenance ability, critical thinking skills, and aptitude for solving complex problems while demanding integrity, sense of urgency, accountability, safety and attention to detail. Under the direction of the Facility supervisor installs, maintains, operates, calibrates, repairs, and troubleshoots refrigeration, air conditioning and air volume equipment and associated control systems. In compliance with operating procedures, Company Safety Programs, Government regulations, and current Good Manufacturing Procedures, assures the quality of our products and services are of the highest priority. HVAC/Refrigeration mechanic will perform maintenance on any equipment or facilities which their skills support in a compliant quality manner. Based on business needs, HVAC mechanics will perform other maintenance activities including crossing between job roles where skills are common. Work assignments, building and equipment are not exclusive to any job role or employee. Position may include some responsibility for maintaining significant business systems (e.g., CMMS data, Procurement, and Scheduling) including the authority to assign, coordinate, and maintain work for others.
Responsibilities:
• Communicates effectively in a professional manner with supervision to provide equipment and system status, parts orders, assigned open EAM CM, PM work orders, FMS requests and any ongoing projects.
• Accurately documents daily work performed and escalates issues to Facilities Supervisor in a timely manner.
• Direct and support maintenance activities to ensure quality, safety, cost, and productivity objectives.
• Plans and anticipates job requirements to make cost effective use of equipment and material resources.
• Follows up on projects to proactively identify and prevent or correct equipment problems.
• Contributes technical information and training to team members and other departments.
• Creates evaluates and updates preventative maintenance work requirements.
• Installs, maintains, calibrates, repairs/overhauls, and operates air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including compressors, pumps, evaporators, expansion valves, solenoid valves, all controls, condensers, and other related parts.
• Troubleshoots and adjusts HVAC systems and air volume control equipment to maintain proper temperature, humidity, and air flow conditions.
• Cleans HVAC coils, evaporators, and condensers via chemicals, air, special cleaning agents, high pressure wash units.
• Repairs and adjust refrigeration systems to maintain design parameters, e.g., temperature pressure, level, etc.
• Operates BAS terminal to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain applicable system performance consistent with required unit and/or area conditions, following all change control procedures.
• Answers alarms associated with monitoring systems and makes routine decisions concerning priority of response.
• Carries radio as directed for expeditious communication of problems.
• Operates recovery, recycling and reclaiming devices to minimize refrigerant impact on environment and obtains appropriate certification as necessary to comply with applicable regulations.
• Completes department training per schedule: Orientation, SOP, safety, etc. as directed from supervision.
• Perform basic to complex carpentry, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and associated work on plant facility utilities using hands, meters and/or power tools as required.
• As required must have the ability to work alone and be able to lift to 50lbs. on a regular basis.
• Able to train and oversee service technicians working on plant equipment or construction projects to ensure they are working in accordance with Renaissance Contractor Safety Guidelines.
• Ensures all work areas are kept clean and free of safety hazards (shops, mechanical rooms, mezzanines)
• Performs duties in support of other trades during regular hours and serves on an on-call basis for scheduled and emergency overtime.
• Maintain current gown qualifications for cleanrooms.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma required.
Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record to be able to drive company vehicles.
Graduation from a recognized/accredited HVAC/Refrigeration trade school.
Refrigerant handling, working in confined spaces, roofs and at heights.
Maintain current NJ High pressure black seal license or ability to obtain a NJ High pressure black seal license within a 1-year time in role.
Commit to a 30-Hour OSHA Certification which is to be done after hours and weekends is required upon hire.
Computer savvy with good verbal and written communication skills.
Able to read and understand technical bulletins, manuals, instructions, and blueprints.
Must wear Company issued uniform per our Company SOP.
Preferred:
Three (3) years Commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry.
EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry
At least 150-Ton HVAC/Refrigeration Chiller systems and/or servicing low temperature refrigeration systems.
Ability to interface with automated building/refrigeration control systems (Tridium).
Experience calibrating HVAC associated instrumentation
Demonstrate proficiency in testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems.
