The Medical Clerk shall report to the Nursing Supervisor of Ritchie Regional Health Center. The Medical Clerk shall be responsible for superbill codes, referrals, and preventive screening review. Medical Clerks play an integral role in maintaining relationships with staff and referring physician offices. The Medical Clerk serves as a point of contact coordinating referral appointments for patients.
Specific duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
1. Schedule referrals and coordinate appointments with patients and nursing staff.
2. Scheduling consultations, labs, imaging, medical supplies and keeping patients informed of appointment dates and times.
3. Coordinates continuity of patient care with external health care organizations and facilities, including obtaining ED records, hospital admission, and discharge and referrals from the primary care provider to a specialty care provider.
4. Assists with the monitoring of all referrals as necessary.
5. Ensures new patient interviews are addressed in a timely manner and schedule new patients with provider.
6. Compile health information related to preventive and maintenance of healthcare, including but not limited to, daily audits of scheduled visits.
7. Scans medical records into the EMR system and assigns tasks to the appropriate staff member.
8. Logs incoming medical records and forms into the EMR System.
9. Other duties as assigned by the nursing supervisor or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Completion of high school diploma. Healthcare experience required.
2. Must possess excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
3. Medical Terminology or completion of course within 6 months
4. Computer skills
5. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
6. Must show the ability to complete medical office work in an accurate manner with reasonable speed in an atmosphere that has frequent interruptions.
7. Current knowledge of applicable safety, OSHA regulations: infection control, blood borne pathogens, ergonomics, healthcare worker initiatives, laboratory staff guidelines and any/all regulations, laws, and recommendations by state and federal department of health and nursing authorities.
