Opportunity:
As a key member of the Leadership Management Team, the Controller will report directly to CEO and assume a key role in the overall financial success and management of the company. The Controller will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing and managing all financial, accounting and compliance-related activities of the company. This includes direct responsibility for overseeing accounting, finance, banking, CPA/Audit firm relationship, vendor negotiations and agreements, budgeting, forecasting, strategic financial planning, practical financial data reporting, cost-justification analysis and performance tracking, federal, state and local compliance issues, and perhaps most of all, improving the financial performance of the company through gross margin improvement especially through Cost of Goods reductions, and effective operating expense management. The Controller will lead an Accounting Department Team of five associates, including the Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities:
1. To maximize the company’s financial performance and return on financial assets by improving Gross Margins, pro-actively lowering Operating Expenses as a % of Sales$ & Gross Profit$, increasing Other Income, and by establishing and maintaining effective financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
2. To minimize corporate Risk by managing all Federal, State and Local Compliance matters effectively.
3. Direct financial and cost accounting support for the company
4. Month-end Closing and review of supporting schedules related to reconciliations
5. Improve systems that support financial closing, analysis, and the needs of other departments
6. Review and tracking of financial performance, KPI’s, and proactively optimize results
7. Ad-hoc projects and analysis
8. Provide support and guidance on development of internal controls to improve efficiencies and financial performance
Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess some, or all, of the following characteristics and abilities:
· Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or equivalent degree. Actual track record of improving financial performance in business is a plus
· 5-10 years successful experience initiating, implementing and institutionalizing financial performance improvements in a distribution or manufacturing environment
· Proven business skills and acumen; excellent analytical skills
· Solid servant leadership attitude and a 3-5 year supervisory track record of leading, growing, and retaining strong teams
· Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
· Well-developed professional and interpersonal skills
· Ability to interface effectively with outside legal counsel, accounting, IT, and other professionals
· Budget development and operational expense management skills
· A practical, working knowledge of Finance, Accounting, Audit, Tax, Regulatory issues and practices
· Process management, policy and standards development, oversight and improvement of internal controls
· Pricing and gross margin % improvement skills
· Working proficiency in financial, operational and Microsoft Office software, strong computer skills.
· Must be able to provide excellent internal and external customer service, always.
