Rochelle Community Hospital Hiring For PRN Phlebotomist, Clinical Lab Specialist at Rochelle, IL  Full Time

Position Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist  regularly performs  the following duties: EKGs, communicating laboratory and patient information (in person, via telephone, fax), phlebotomy (including capillary, venous, and arterial blood draws), specimen labeling, assurance of order, sample, and patient identification, specimen processing (including whole blood, serum, plasma, urine, stool, body fluids, tissues), specimen delivery both to and within the laboratory, inventorying  supplies, and quality control duties. A primary responsibility is to provide outstanding customer service to laboratory patients. The Clinical Laboratory Specialist must be able to handle high pressure situations and perform invasive venipunctures and arterial punctures. The Clinical Laboratory Specialist must work effectively and harmoniously with patients, staff, and the public.

Principle Responsibilities

• Performs EKG tracings on in and out patients as ordered by the Medical Staff.
• Performs venipunctures, finger punctures, and arterial punctures with the knowledge and skill necessary for age specific service; anticipates and answers patient questions and needs based on age.
• Accurately processes in and out patient requisitions. Checks patient’s physician order against computer order and makes any necessary corrections.
• Enters requisitions on a daily ledger and answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner.
• Works in high stress emergency situations with professionalism and makes sound judgement decisions based on education and experience.
• Checks reports for completeness, distributes, and files in order to maintain adequate laboratory records. Faxes reports as necessary.
• Is computer competent and is able to perform the necessary skills needed to complete orders.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and functional working environment.  Is able to troubleshoot systems should problems arise. Uses supplies and patient care items cost effectively.
• Is proactive in attending in service education programs both in and out of house. Is willing to learn more procedures and improve services.
• Maintains annual competency and mandatory education requirements based on JOINT, CLIA, IDPH, and OSHA.

Position Qualifications
Education:     High School Graduate
Qualifications: Excellent manual dexterity and ability to follow directions meticulously.
Ability to work with patients, staff, and the public with courtesy and professionalism is required.
Some Phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
