Job Objective:
The Office Nurse, under the supervision of the Clinic Operations Manager, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of healthcare and patient care management.
Job Duties:
-Performs selected nursing duties and assists physician or nurse practitioner as part of the healthcare team.
-Conducts pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the Electronic Health Record prior to the appointment with recent test results and correspondence and confers with provider regarding any incomplete orders.
-Prepares patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting room to the exam room and taking histories and vital signs and entering them into the EHR.
-Prepares and maintains exam and procedure rooms.
-Gives injections; assists with EKGs, gynecological exams and office procedures as needed; and provides other patient care services as directed by the provider.
-Maintains sample medication records, administers medications upon provider order, documents administered medication in the EHR and responds to medication requests per practice protocol.
-Triages and responds to patient communications.
-Assists with scheduled tests and treatments, pre-certifying patients for hospital care and/or procedures, and processes referrals to other providers.
-Creates and maintains the Electronic Health Record, and other patient records as directed by provider.
-Maintains strict confidentiality of patient health records.
-Treats patients, providers, other staff and visitors with dignity and respect.
-Performs other related work as directed.
-One Year experience in a physician’s office or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred; will train a highly-motivated new graduate.
-Ability to assist in a variety of common office procedures.
-Ability to take vital signs and an accurate and complete patient history.
-Good computer knowledge and ability to type 35 words per minute.
-Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public.
-Willingness to learn new things.
Physical Demands:
-Stand for extended periods of time, push, pull and reach; occasionally bend, sit, stoop, and stretch.
-Have full range of body motion and ability to lift up to 35 pounds including the handling, lifting and assisting in movement of patients.
-Have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, telephone, fax machine, and other medical equipment including an EKG machine and glucometer.
-Have normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements including close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
Typical Working Conditions:
The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment. The position required the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public on a regular basis. The position may cause frequent exposure to communicable disease, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, cleaning fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment.
