Position Purpose

Manage customer and inter-company deliveries for package shipments based on orders while respecting contractual terms, lead times and budgets.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Within Functional Area:

• Assign carriers to domestic transportation orders (customers and inter-company)

• Track and trace shipments from carrier assignment to delivery

• Maintain regular contact with carriers to promote vendor relationship

• Report shipment exceptions to Customer Care Agents in a timely manner

• Coordinate the development of loading plans with assigned shipping facilities

• Manage carrier assignments with consideration to rate and service requirements

• Audit, investigate and determine approval for all air, ocean and road transportation invoices to ensure timely posting for payment

• Serve as backup support for Transportation Specialist – Import/Export to cover absences from the office

• Support investigation of package transportation-related customer complaints

• Support domestic package transportation projects and activities, including Requests for Quote (RFQ)

• Support package transportation Insurance Claims

Cross-Functional:

• Collaborate with Operations, Logistics, Transportation providers, warehouses, Customer Care, Quality , Sales and Purchasing.

• Work directly with carriers, customers, warehouses, suppliers and other external constituencies. The project engineer’s missions are as follows:

Work Autonomy

• Tender shipments to carriers based on cost, capacity and service.

• Ensure shipments are executed in a timely manner, meeting or exceeding customer requirements. Follow through to ensure un-eventful delivery.

• Make cost/compliance/service decisions without management support.

Communication Skills

• Must have effective written and oral communication skills pursuant to effective customer service and the ability to communicate across many levels in the organization

Workload prioritization

• Must be well organized, detail-oriented, have the ability to multi-task, and prioritize the changing workload.

Teamwork

• Must be able to work both independently and with teams to resolve discrepancies and develop preventive actions. Must have the ability to exercise independent judgement while adhering to company policies.

TL and LTL Transportation

• Strong knowledge of transportation world, with ability to react to changes in cost, capacity and service.

Microsoft Office

• Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point. Also CICS ( IBM AS400) and SAP experience preferred.

Cost-Benefit Analysis

• Must have critical thinking ability and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education:

• Associate Degree in business or related field and/or equivalent experience

Experience:

• 3 years managing outbound transportation. Specific requirements:

Knowledge

• Operational knowledge and understanding of TL, LTL and IM transportation.

Skills

• Ability to work effectively with internal cross-functional teams, and create customized transportation solutions for the customer.

• Ability to effectively adhere to time constraints/deadlines

• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously while working in a fast-paced environment

• Demonstrated behaviors including self-motivation, strong organization skills, dependability, and attention to detail
  Ability to make quick, appropriate decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills

• Demonstrated strong computer skills; proficiency in MS Office products

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

• 90% sitting, 5% walking, 5% standing.

• Must have the ability to occasionally lift, push or pull up to 10 lbs.

• Repetitive use of hands and arms.

• Occasional twist of head and/or back.

• The employee is regularly required to talk, hear; and use near and far vision.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

• This is a full time position. Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.
