Located in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont, Rowan County is attractively and conveniently nestled between the state’s largest city and its Capitol. The County is currently accepting applications for the position of Library Assistant (Adult Outreach). This position charges and discharges materials at Library Adult Outreach Sites; checks individual’s record for previous fines and collects fines; issues library cards; provides operational information to the public; processes reserve requests from outreach patrons; packs, loads, transports, unloads and unpacks library books and materials from Library Headquarters to outreach locations; operates a County vehicle for the library’s adult outreach program and courier service; works at Library Headquarters computer lab desk as needed; provides lab users assistance with online resources and software, Microsoft Office products, web browsers, computers, iPads, smart phones and other electronic devices, printing, downloading, scanning and copying documents; demonstrates proper use of lab equipment; and monitors and enforces lab rules and regulations; evening and weekend work required. This position requires regular bending, carrying, pulling and lifting of baskets and carts filled with library books and materials.
Requires general knowledge of office practices and procedures; working knowledge of arithmetic and its uses in general office work; ability to gather and give basic information and instructions regarding the operation of the library; ability to communicate effectively with the general public; ability to operate a County vehicle; and ability to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly on a daily basis.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and one year of experience working in a library, office environment, or public service setting; and a valid driver’s license.
Starting Salary $25,600 – $28,200 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available.
