Rural Court Administrator 3 – Fourth Judicial District (41-4115) Full Time

 
The Fourth Judicial District of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is accepting applications for a Rural Court Administrator 3 (salary range 18) working out of Fairbanks. Under general direction of the Area Court Administrator, and the Presiding Judge, this highly responsible position provides training and management/supervisory support to the rural courts of the Fourth District. 
 
Personnel rules will be applied to determine step placement for the successful internal candidate.  This position is assigned to the court’s partially exempt service; incumbents serve “at-will” to the hiring authority.
 
The Position 

• Work under the general direction of the ACA and Presiding Judge on administrative functions and procedures for the district’s rural courts; 
• Work with statewide court administrative offices (e.g., Facilities, Information Systems, Human Resources, Central Services, etc.) to address rural court needs;
• Provide both on-site and remote assistance to rural court staff; perform monthly audits of court data;
• Review new or revised court proceedings, rules, and statutes for applicability to rural court judicial and non-judicial employees; share necessary information with the rural courts for implementation;
• Travel to rural courts for a community site visit at least two times per year (unless otherwise limited) or as needed; while on visits, review court procedures for compliance with ACS rules, policies, procedures, and statutes;
• Work with Judicial Education Manager, Clerical Education Manager, Training Judges and Fourth District Trial Court Trainer as necessary prepare instructional training materials and training plans for rural court staff;
• Confer with the Trial Court Trainer regarding training needs for incoming and current staff;
• Assist training judges with annual evaluations; assist and coordinate training programs for new Magistrate Judges, on-site and in other locations; facilitate conferences for district administrative meetings;
• Be directly involved in decision-making process and discussions concerning policy and procedures affecting all areas of trial court administration that will impact rural courts;
• Coordinate remodeling projects and leasehold improvements;
• Act as media liaison for Fourth District rural courts.

 
Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND four years of technical or professional legal work experience with the Alaska trial or appellate courts.
 
OR
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND four years of technical or professional legal work experience with a law firm or justice agency.
 
OR
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college AND three years of professional experience training or teaching adults.
 
OR
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND five years of professional experience training or teaching adults.
 
OR
Graduation from an accredited law school AND one year of legal work experience with a law firm or justice agency.
 
NOTE: The required technical or professional legal work experience with the Alaska Court System is met by service such as a Court Case Manager 1, Court Case Manager 2, Courtroom Judicial Assistant, Chief Deputy Clerk, Clerk of Court, or Rural Court Administrator 1 or 2.
