HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
THE POSITION
Aligns Human Resource planning, policies and procedures with the strategic mission and operational objectives of SFBA. Provides HR Leadership and direction to the executive and management teams, and overall workforce of 500 + full-time and seasonal employees in a complex organizational structure. Plans, develops, establishes and administers all Human Resource disciplines and functions. Establishes and/or enhances HR policies and programs that support employees through the complete talent lifecycle. This role reports to the Executive Director and serves as a member of the leadership team. There are two direct HR staff reporting to this role. Prepares, recommends and administers human resources budget. Works closely with the Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, Payroll, Leadership Team and Department Heads. Works with legal counsel as necessary. Ensures service delivery excellence.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Total Rewards
Works with leadership team in determining compensation philosophy and designs compensation program, maintains salary administration and compensation adjustments such as annual review, merit, temporary pay changes, guaranteed raises, performs job analysis, compensation analysis. Conducts benchmarking (local, industry, union, non-union) to determine external competitiveness and internal equity.
Develops and maintains benefit programs for SFBA employees, including medical, dental, vision insurance, and EAP benefits, retirement (401(k), qualified 403(b), Non-ERISA 403b and 457(b) plans), and Section 125 plans. Analyzes benefits programs and recommends changes as appropriate. Oversees open enrollment sessions, benefit education programs, and orientations for new employees; and prepares reports, as necessary. Supervises and works closely with HR Generalist to ensure accurate processing and administration of all benefit plans and materials.
Provides strategic and annual budget planning support. Manages other company-provided benefits such as commuter checks. Oversees wellness programs for staff including the coordination of ongoing and future activities and events.
Talent Acquisition
Works with hiring managers in creating role descriptions, job postings, performs recruiting activities, creates and issues offer letters, conducts on-boarding processes.
HR Compliance
Ensures all HR Policies, Procedures, Programs are compliant with Federal, State, Local employment law and ordinances.
Employment Law
Manages SFBA Personnel Policy Development and maintains Employee Manual. Prepares and maintains human resource documents and reports, and the maintenance of secure personnel records. Ensures HR policies and procedures are compliant with Federal, State, Local laws and ordinances.
Employee Relations
Consults with department managers to ensure disciplinary, and/or termination procedures comply with SFBA policy and other applicable laws.
HR Analytics and Reporting
Oversees the administration and operation of secure HR data integrating with ADP, PaperSave, and other institutional database/systems. Oversees local, state, federal and payroll quarterly and annual reporting/auditing including: San Francisco ordinances, Medicare, EEO, CORI, DOL, payroll deductions. Participates in annual 401k, 403b and financial audits. Manages annual benefit W2, 990 and ACA reporting. Oversees $2 million dollars in vendor billing. Stakeholder in HRIS implementation and operation.
Labor Relations
Performs research and provides support in the preparation for labor negotiations; assists in the administration of labor agreements.

As America’s oldest professional ballet company and one of the three largest ballet companies in the United States, San Francisco Ballet has enjoyed a long and rich tradition of artistic “firsts” since its founding in 1933. It performed the first American productions of Swan Lake and Nutcracker, as well as the first production of Coppelia choreographed by an American choreographer. In 2005, San Francisco Ballet won the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award, its first, in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Dance,” for its 2004 London tour. In 2006, San Francisco Ballet was the first non-European company elected “Company of the Year” in Dance Europe magazine’s annual readers’ poll. In 2023, San Francisco Ballet celebrates its 90th anniversary.
