Job Summary
The Network Design Manager s role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization s IT assets. The Network Design Manager schedules and directs the activities of a team of network specialists that design and implement network solutions across the enterprise. This position includes the delivery oversight of developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and communication links. The position also helps to establish the strategy and standards for the network area. The Network Design Manager will work in collaboration with the Network Operations Manager to provide seamless transition of services into production in an efficient and effective manner. Strategy & Planning
Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirements.
Prepare an annual capital and operational budget to support the plans and designs of current and future implementations.
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration and appropriate use.
Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation.
Establish service level agreements with end users.
Acquisition & Deployment
Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote network hardware and software across the organization s network.
Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and implementation efforts.
Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
Assess, approve, and administer all network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
Operational Management
Manage and ensure optimal operation of all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, UPSs, and so on.
Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent network activities.
Provide oversight of vendor management, contracts, and support agreements.
Approve and administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
Interview, hire, direct and administrate a team of network engineers, and conduct performance reviews and corrective actions when necessary.
Provide guidance and direction to all members of the team.
Additional Job Description
Formal Education & Certification
Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science, networking and/or Security; and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
Certifications in Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, or other similar products considered a plus.
Knowledge & Experience
Five years of experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
Exceptional technical knowledge of network operating systems, including Cisco operating systems (IOS, IOS XR, IOS XE, and NX-OS), FortiOS
Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as routers, bridges, switches, hubs, modems, network interface cards, and so on.
Knowledge of current protocols and standards, including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Locator ID Separation Protocol (LISP), Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI).
Knowledge and understanding of product roadmaps, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles.
Consults on the budgeting process across the enterprise.
Reviews contracts to ensure compliance with contract specifications and regulations.
Champions new ideas, methodologies and practices that drive individual and group productivity.
Creates and implements a strategy for supporting current and future business needs.
Develops long-term strategies to deliver services that keep pace with technology trends.
Expert knowledge of system standards, documentation methodologies, and practices with Microsoft Visio, Netterrain, or other comparable systems.

Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in computer science, management information systems, business or a related field.
Minimum of four years’ experience in management required.
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation certification preferred.
