The Sports Tourism, Facilities and Programs Manager for our Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) department will manage contracts and agreements with leagues and sport tourism partners to optimize community usage and programming of sports facilities. This position has a starting pay of $92,000.00 – $100,000.00, depending on experience, and benefits begin within 60 days of hire! About the Position
In this role you will be responsible for…
Operations:
Manage contracts of community sport facilities ensuring contractual compliance, while maintaining effective partnerships.
Support division staff in the development and execution of strategies to facilitate optimal use of Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources (PRNR) sports facilities, balancing community and sports tourism use.
Manage division staff in building and maintaining effective relationships with local sports organizations, sports event organizers, volunteers, and other facility users.
Develop and direct the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards.
Maintain a comprehensive and diverse program of park services, public information/engagement, marketing, recreational activities, and technological advancements.
Draft ordinance amendments, resolutions, County Commission reports, letters and other correspondence for signature by administrators and the Board Chair.
Respond to complaints, investigate problems, and provide resolution to a wide range of issues, including public inquiries, requests for information or services, as well as requests for press/media and public information needs.
Attend and present at various public boards, committees, and associations (e.g., County Commission, Parks Advisory and Recreation Council, municipal park advisory boards, and other community groups).
Collaborate with the General Services department, other PRNR divisions and subject matter experts to obtain feedback on repair projects and routine maintenance practices, to make decisions on prioritization of financial commitments.
Establish and monitor data and metrics through regularly produced RecTrac reports including revenue, outstanding collections, insurance compliance, non-profit tax-exempt requirements, and other related information.
Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services, other county departments, and subject matter experts to obtain feedback, support, and assistance with addressing staff, visitor, participant, and facility safety protocols and continuous improvement.
Sports Tourism:
Identify goals, projects, and other strategic items for the division in support of sports tourism growth and fostering partnerships within the local sports community.
Provide oversight for strategic use of Sports Tourism Tourist Development Tax funds to ensure return on investment in the form of economic impact and/or community benefit, and future sustainability of sports tourism initiatives.
Develop and implement a major event hosting strategy in collaboration with Visit Sarasota County, facility partners and other PRNR divisions. Strategy shall include cost-benefit analysis, scheduling considerations, bid processes and establishment of roles and responsibilities among organizations.
Lead partnerships with Major League Baseball franchises (Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles) by managing the agreement/Memorandum of Understanding with each club and facilitating the respective capital repair and renovation programs for each facility.
Work Hours:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
Must be available Sunday – Saturday, 08:00 a.m. – 05:00 p.m.
Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, leisure services, education, sport management, or a related field.
Six (6) years of professional experience related to the position.
Four (4) years of supervisory experience.
-OR- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate recreation, leisure services or environmental field and Four (4) years of professional related experience.
May consider substituting years of experience for the 4 year degree.
Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in recreation, leisure services, education, sport management, or a related field and Seven (7) or more years of professional experience directly related to the position.
Experience working with the public, contracts, political issues, media relations, convention and visitors bureau/sports tourism collaboration.
Exceptional writing skills.
Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
