POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Annual Fund is responsible for a complex, multi-channel fundraising campaign that delivers against department objectives to 1) increase annual operating revenue while reducing cost per dollar raised, 2) grow the Monthly Sustainers program, and 3) build a major gifts pipeline.
This position requires an experienced team leader who can think strategically and creatively, manage multiple tasks, and deliver outcomes diplomatically and in alignment with the department workplan. The Director must shape an advanced vision – grounded in the donor data — to grow annual fund revenue.? The Director must also be comfortable owning the systems and processes needed to execute on that vision.
This position is responsible for the overall success of the Food Bank’s direct response annual giving programs, including direct mail and online campaigns to acquire, cultivate, renew and upgrade donors under $1K; will partner with Leadership Gifts to cultivate the mid-level individual giving program for donors making annual gifts of $1,000-$9,999; and will drive pipeline strategy for moving annual donors into the major gifts pool.
Under the leadership of the VP of Development, this position oversees a team of five.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Team Leadership and Collaboration
Leads strategy of the fundraising efforts of the Annual Fund team, in support of the overall department objective to increase annual operating revenue while reducing cost per dollar raised.
Acts as a supportive manager to the Digital Fundraising Manager (DFM), Development Campaign Manager (DCM), and Sustaining Gifts Program Manager (SGPM).
Partners with Development Directors to deliver against workplan goals, ensure best practices, and support all Annual Fund efforts with robust data, process, and infrastructure.?
Fundraising and Donor Stewardship
Leads efforts to identify and engage new constituencies, renew existing, and re-activate lapsed supporters to the Food Bank.
Supports DFM, DCM, and SGPM in delivering successful, on message, coordinated campaigns for renewing donors under $1,000, mid-level program donors from $1000-$9999, and the Food Bank’s Monthly Giving Circle.
Works closely with DFM, SGPM, and Annual Fund Coordinators on building systems and resources to ensure a strong Donor Services experience.
Broadens donor acquisition strategies across digital and offline channels in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team.
Drives Annual Fund renewal & acquisition campaigns to grow the donor base, improve learnings, and retain donors with smarter analytics with an eye toward A/B testing and experimentation.
Oversees building a Midlevel-Major Gifts and Legacy Gifts pipeline using thoughtful segmentation, collaborating with the DCM and Leadership Gifts and Development Operations teams.
Works closely with Marketing & Communications teams to integrate campaigns across media channels and ensure Annual Fund campaigns help provide a strong reputation for the Food Bank.?
Works with Development Operations to ensure the successful integration the Food Bank’s online fundraising and communication tool (Engaging Networks) with the database of record (Raiser’s Edge).
Partners with DevOps to ensure successful segmentation, tracking, reporting and analysis of campaigns and appeals.
Provides consultation and execution on bespoke milestone fundraising campaigns, such as Capital Campaigns, events, and more
Manages donor surveys and other research activities to ensure that all Annual Fund messaging reflects the interests and concerns of our constituents.
Works with Marketing & Communications, Community Engagement, Programs, and Development staff to identify compelling stories, projects, and programs to showcase in fundraising activities. Actively works to integrate the Annual Fund program with other fundraising and communications activity.
Planning and Administration
Responsible for developing and overseeing the workplan and budget for annual (under $1K), monthly, and mid-level ($1K-$9,999) donor programs, working within the Food Bank’s organization-wide work plan, setting strategy and schedules, managing deadlines, tracking expenses and meeting revenue, retention and acquisition goals.
Oversees revenue and expense budget for the Annual Fund team, keeping a close eye on trends and ROI.
Ensure team has the resources, project management systems, and prioritization structures it needs to get the job done well.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proven ability to acquire and retain donors for small dollar gifts through the management of large-scale direct mail and online fundraising campaigns, preferably for nonprofit organizations
Experience acting as a supportive manager to Full time staff
A data-driven, experimentation-focused approach with an ability to clearly assess and measure outcomes.
Expertise developing and using financial analysis and donor reports to inform strategic decisions.
Experience managing and growing a robust monthly sustainer program.
Ability to develop and monitor work plans and budgets
Experience managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
Experience working with advanced marketing automation software (Engaging Networks is a plus)
Familiarity with advanced CRM tools (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Strong vendor management and relationship skills.
