Position Overview: As a Associate Designer for SFA Design, an underlying theme will be the direct effect your role has on SFA Design achieving our mission. With that said, it will be your responsibility to ensure that each Project assigned to your Team is completed to SFA Design’s high standards and objectives. These standards will not only be reflected in your day to day duties but will translate into the overall quality of the design itself. SFA Design views the Associate Designer role as an evolving, educational process through which Associate Team Members are able to gradually take on more responsibility as they learn and improve their skillset through the mentorship of their Senior Team Members. The Associate Designer is a vital component to the Design process as they are responsible on the backend for ensuring in part Projects stay on-schedule and within budget, quality of execution, quality of customer service, etc. Additionally, the Junior Designer is an important liaison between Vendors, Purchasing, Clients and Senior Team Members. The Associate Designer’s role will vary based on Project needs and positive progress noted by Senior Team Members.
Equally important will be your responsibility to SFA Design as a business by ensuring profitability to the organization. This will be accomplished through strong Project management and a comprehensive understanding of our business requirements. Finally, as a Associate Designer at SFA Design, we expect you to be an advocate for upholding Company standards and exemplify professionalism in relation to Clients, Vendors and Employees. This will be demonstrated through your unwavering commitment to the Projects and SFA Design.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
? Work with Senior Team Members on Concept Phase:
? On assigned Projects produce and assist as needed; Conceptual sketches, sources, Vendor options, materials, colors, floor plans and all conceptual options and choices for Project
? Assist Senior Team Members in creating Client budgets and budget options
? Assist Senior Team Members with quoting and implementation of concepts
? Assist with Client Meetings On and Off Site:
? Accompany Senior Team Members to Client meetings when necessary
? Take notes, measurements, photos and record details of meetings
? Assist Senior Team Members in Project concept, assembly and presentation
? Design Presentation Assistance:
? Manage product images (sourcing, scanning, saving and printing)
? Prepare InDesign / Publisher presentations for Senior Team Members
? Prepare product prints, framing, and other materials needed for presentation boards
? Product Sourcing, Quoting and Pricing:
? Secondary Vendor liaison on assigned Projects
? When needed, work with Senior Team Members on all aspects of sourcing, quoting, specifying and pricing
? Assist in ensuring accurate incoming and outgoing information to and from the Vendors
? Purchasing:
? Assist in preparing Purchasing Proposals and Purchase Orders in association with the Senior Team Members
? Purchase Orders: Assist in making Client copies, filing Client copies, etc.
? Assist in following up with Vendors
? Assist in expediting items
? Assist in maintaining spreadsheets
? Assist in keeping all PO books organized, when getting notes from Vendors, helping to add them in Studio Webware or just making sure Purchasing Agent has notes to add to Studio Webware
? General Duties & Position Standards:
? Manage CFA’s and sampling
? Manage all design department filing and binder upkeep
? Update and maintain resource library
? Assist in keeping the design studios organize
? Run errands and provide general Designer and expeditor assistance
? Complete Projects in a quick and efficient manner
? Run Projects and all associated details through typical Company procedures
? Constantly and proactively look to achieve maximum efficiency, productivity, and profitability for SFA Design through improved systems and organization
? Ensure a high-quality customer experience
? Manage assigned interns’ workloads and training
? Keep all Project related materials organized and updated, including hard copies and soft copies/P drive
? Organize and participate in installations as required
? Attend lunch and learns, tent shows and trade shows as necessary to stay on top of the latest products
Associate Designer Technical Skills: The following professional skills are required of any potential or current Team Member in the Associate Designer role:
? Proficient in CAD, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.), Spexx and Studio Designer
? Familiar with Billquick, Buzzsaw, Procore and other relevant Contractor tracking software
? Ability to scale plans and sketch and render by hand
Associate Designer Professional Skills: Additionally, the Associate Designer should possess the following job-specific attributes:
? Excellent time and Project management skills
? Good eye for color theory
? Strong Client and relationship skills. Works well with Clients, Consultants and other Team Members
? Willing to help others and be a Team player
? Great communication skills, both verbal and written
? Full understanding of all aspects of our Design services and the ability to perform all levels of the service

Reviews will be conducted on an annual basis to assess progress and potential areas of improvement. At such a time adjustment in compensation will be considered as well as additional perks based on a successful review.
