Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting
Shake Shack is seeking a motivated, proactive and driven accounting professional to join our financial reporting team. The Staff Accountant, Financial Reporting will be instrumental in the external reporting process, including assisting with the preparation of various reports filed with the SEC, debt compliance reporting and Census Bureau reporting. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting & Consolidations, this individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce timely and accurate reports in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Assist with the preparation of various reports to be filed with the SEC, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K (earnings press releases), proxy statements and other filing documents.
Prepare supporting schedules, documentation, and analyses to support the financial statements, footnotes and MD&A disclosures.
Assist with eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging of financial statements and footnotes.
Assist with the preparation of schedules and reports for debt covenant compliance reporting
Coordinate data gathering and information requestion for Census Bureau reporting
Interface with key contributors to the SEC reports, including Legal, Finance, Tax, FP&A, Supply Chain, Operations, IT, Construction/Real Estate, People Resources and Marketing.
Work with external auditors in conjunction with the annual year-end audit and interim reviews.
Other Duties and Ad Hoc Projects:
Remain current on new and upcoming accounting guidance issued by the FASB and SEC.
Assist in the preparation of presentations for the Audit Committee.
Prepare documentation and facilitate testing of internal controls surrounding the financial reporting process to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
Continuously assess financial reporting processes for process improvements.
Prepare reports/analyses and participate in other projects as needed
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
1 to 3 years of experience at a public accounting firm or a public company
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules
Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines
Experience in the restaurant and/or retail industries a plus
CPA or progress towards CPA a plus
Experience with Workday and/or Workiva (Wdesk) a plus
